I love this song!
I'm not sure of the exact meaning, but to me this song is about a guy who likes this girl as more than a friend. The girl thinks of the guy as a really really close friend but nothing more. The guy tries hard to please the girl but she still only thinks of him as a good friend, and it hurts him to know that is all that she thinks of him so, he is just going to try and stay out of her life.
I think I might be completely off, but that's how I see it.
