Sleeping Bag Lyrics
open up the door
lay the orange juice on the floor
we're having a picnic on the other side of town
there's sleeping bags and fire
and it's getting down to the wire
so grab yourself a spot and settle down awhile
'cause its getting hard to think
and my clothes are starting to shrink
and the moon is saggin down like a metal ball
and the world is a holiday
smokin' in an old ashtray
they just blow it out their nose and say ok
so let's try to make it last
the past is still the past
and tomorrow is just another crazy scam
lay the orange juice on the floor
we're having a picnic on the other side of town
and it's getting down to the wire
so grab yourself a spot and settle down awhile
and my clothes are starting to shrink
and the moon is saggin down like a metal ball
smokin' in an old ashtray
they just blow it out their nose and say ok
the past is still the past
and tomorrow is just another crazy scam

This song is essentially about rough, rough times. In poverty and homelessness.
i don't think the times are all that rough. he seems to have an optimism that shakes off the more despairing side of homelessness. even though he writes about the darker sides of it (steal my body home, hollow log) beck always had a sparkle in his step. and a smile on his face when singing about his transient period. rock on beck. great song.
