An open road where I can breathe
Where the lowest low is calling to me
I can pull myself back up back down
Stuck together like a readymade
And nobody knows where we been
Cancelled rations are running thin
Watches tick out of tune
Falling apart like a readymade
My bags are waiting in the next life
Rubbish piles fresh and plain
Empty boxes in a pawn shop brain
License plates stowaway
Standing in line like a readymade
And my bags are waiting in the next life
An open road where I can breathe
Where the lowest low is calling to me
I can pull myself back up back down
Stuck together like a readymade
And my bags are waiting in the next life
Where the lowest low is calling to me
I can pull myself back up back down
Stuck together like a readymade
Cancelled rations are running thin
Watches tick out of tune
Falling apart like a readymade
My bags are waiting in the next life
Empty boxes in a pawn shop brain
License plates stowaway
Standing in line like a readymade
And my bags are waiting in the next life
Where the lowest low is calling to me
I can pull myself back up back down
Stuck together like a readymade
And my bags are waiting in the next life

This song is about touring, without a doubt since Beck said it himself. It's about having to follow a schedule that determines where you will be and when for months on end, and although it is a machine-like regimen, he still wants to maintain a human connection with the people he meets and to his fans. Readymade = something that can be deployed at anytime, like an automaton.
This song is my favorite Beck song of all. I never heard sarcastic music until this one. If you take away the lyrics, the music is a mocking, sarcastic rift that is just hilarious. The trumpets followed by the keyboard... just too funny.
readymade=(?)humans. There are a lot of folks who say that all of our actions are predetermined. depressing ain't it?
readymade= off the rack (suit, clothing in general; that versus custom "taylormade". "Falling apart like a readymade" Made poorly, for the masses, lacking individuality
Is it just me or does anybody else hear the jumping noise from the Super Mario Bros. video games?
the trumpets are playing the first line from a jazz standard: Desafinado. Go trumpets! go me!
...sorry...
