Nicotine & Gravy Lyrics

I'll be your chauffeur on a midnight drive
It takes a miracle just to survive
Buried animals call your name
You keep on sleeping
Through the poignant rain

I think we're going crazy
Her left eye is lazy
She looks so Israeli
Nicotine and gravy

I'll feed you fruit that don't exist
I'll leave graffiti
Where you've never been kissed
I'll do your laundry
Massage your soul
I'll turn you over
To the highway patrol

I think we're going crazy
Things don't even faze me
Her left eye is lazy
Nicotine and gravy
Miracles amaze me
She looks so Israeli
Love the way she plays me
I think I'm going crazy

I don't want to die tonight
I don't want to die tonight…..

Sea Change is a great album, as is Midnite Vultures. That's why Beck is great-- his albums are all so versatile. I mean, how many of us would still adore him if every album sounded the same?

This song is incredible... "I'll leave graffiti where you've never been kissed"-- brilliant.

Best song on the best album. Should have won the f'n grammy because of the part where they just break down around 2 mins and stop, then go buck wild wiht "I think we're going crazy things don't even phase me." BECK WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH SEA CHANGE? Don't go dashboard and only sing about your ex, f her and stick to what got you nomminated for best album twice.

...He wrote Sea Change after his father died, acutally.

No, he wrote Sea Change after him and his girlfriend ended their relationship. His father actually helped write the string arrangements for it, so I honestly doubt he could have been dead.

Unless his father has the power to write music from beyond the grave.

That would be pretty kickass, actually.

Oh. I must have mis-read then. Oops. I think I heard he died while they were writing it? Or something? I can't remember.

Maybe his father does have the power. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW.

God, I love this song. Still thying to figure out what this song means - I gather the narrator adores his subject, but that's it so far - but it sounds good anyway. My friend argues that "poignant" should be changed to "funky," but she has yet to explain why. I'm so sorry...I'm rambling.

Doesn't she sing "I don't want to drive at night?"

It makes sense. I mean, he will be her chauffeur on a midnight drive, after all.

This is probably my favorite song on Midnite Vultures. Beck's voice is so alluring. I love these lines:

I'll feed you fruit that don't exist I'll leave graffiti Where you've never been kissed

Ahhh. Beck = bliss.

It captures both the repulsive and hedonic urges of sex. The chick is vulgar, foreign, illegal, and lustful. In a word, taboo. love it. He sounds like Prince/Marvin Gaye on most of Midnite Vultures, especially this song, but i can't help loving it. (sigh) guilty pleasure.
