Watch The World Lyrics

I watched the smoke
As it grew darker
And blew up through the roof
I watched the fad
Who sobbed in panic
As the fire grew

I saw Virginia
Get rid of Langley, and its secrets too
I held your hand
And sat there knowing
That we'd make it through

I saw this man
Dispose of hunger
And soap operas too
I saw this field
That grew perfection
Full of things you do

I saw this box
Get rid of heartache
And cure cancer too
When I awoke
I sat there hoping
This is what we'll do

If we can
We will leave our letter and this song, for you
And we'll write, once a day
And float it through the sea, to you
We'll regret, all those things we thought of but didn't ever do

If we can, we will leave our letter and this song, for you
And we'll write, once a day
And float it through the sea, to you
We'll regret, all those things we thought of but didn't ever do
When the sky, seems to clear
Who will then be left, but a few, me and you

In the first verse, the lyrics are fed and not fad. The fed is short for the federal reserve system which IS part of the government, it is the central bank of the united states and one of its responsibilities is printing new bils/destroying old bills. The first lines of the song are talking about burning down the fed/burning the country's money which is why the employees are panicking. Next, Langley is the town in Virginia where the CIA is headquarted. It is not an airforce base but there is an airforce base in Langley. The song is talking about getting rid of the CIA and making their secrets public. This whole verse is talking about overthrowing the government. I would really like to know how anybody thought this was anyway about 9/11 I fail to see any reference to that.

My Interpretation

Sorry for double post I didn't know we could reply .people think its about 911 because smoke from the attack, the Federal government who panicked as the fire grew continuing to destroy the buildings. Langley in Virginia apparently had several people affected by 911. "I held your hand and sat there knowing that we'd make it through" could mean that they are going through rough times or are victim of the attack.

I am like you and didn't even think of 911 when I listened to it.

I agree. The singer is telling about his dream where everything was good. People got rid of the Federal Reserve (by burning the money) and of the CIA in Langley, VA. There was no more hunger or heartache, and there was a cure for cancer. He then woke up and hoped that everything came true.

@trvsbrns9 If you seriously can't understand why people referenced 9/11 being that this album was released less a year after, I don't know how your brain funtions. You might be able to look at the deeper meaning but you're obviously not using common sense.

When I got this cd and listened to this song and read the lyrics, I tried to figure out what this song meant, and I thought of september 11th, also. Also about the war, how "i saw this field that grew perfection fall of things you'd do" was like.. i dont know, a battle in the field. makes sense, dont it? also, the chorus makes me think that they were saying it towards the soldiers across the ocean, how "we will write a letter a day and send it across the sea to you".. Just my opinion, whatever. Great song, my fave on the cd :)
