I don't think it's impossible to interpret this song...

this is obviously talking about our current cultural values - we (generalizing) think "ghetto", "gangsta" boys and fake-titted girls are sexy. We also think money and power are sexy.

"I know you really want it Cos your Daddy's always on it And he knows just how to flaunt it He got pictures in his wallet"

people think that's what everyone wants because that's the cultural values we inherit from society and our fathers. if a guy shows his kid that big breasted near-anorexic babes are hot, that's what you might expect this kid will like.

"And he wanna be your lover Does he look just like my mother Does he cover you like butter And just leave you in the gutter"

this "father-mother" confusion thing is crazy. I guess it's about each gender's roles being confused in people's heads. I guess by "covering like butter" means using a lot of makeup. "left in the gutter" seems to express a feeling of abandonment.

"I want to know if I'm worth your time There's so much to do before you die Thursday night, I think I'm pregnant again Touch my ass if you're qualified"

Beck seems to criticize how meaningless and trivial a lot of relationships are nowadays. instead of "I love you", it's "I wanna know if I'm worth your time", because people just want to have a lot of meaningless relationships instead of a fulfilling one. if you kiss someone, it's because you're REALLY "worth his/her time".

a girl's meaningless sex life becomes unstable and she ends up becoming pregnant even more than once. and if someone lets you touch his/her ass, it's not because he/she likes/loves you, it's because you're qualified to do so.

so it's all about how relationships and sex can be meaningless

Who knows what this is about? though, according to this beck biography i've been reading, the intro is supposed to imitate the sounds of robots fucking. i can kind of hear it.

Man, I first heard this album late on a Thursday night and I've been scarred ever since.

Sounds like a social commentary on the prototypical supersex being and how they're really robots. All the elements seem to be there - the oedipus complex, the ambition for money, getting pregnant after clubbing, the hot oil.

I always interpreted "Does he cover you like butter and just stick you in the gutter" to mean that he is intrusive and controlling one moment and then indifferent the next.

Also, "Touch my ass if you qualify" is a GREAT line.

as always, beck's songs are allmost impossible to analyze.. i belive that the fisrt part is some kind of stereotype-thing.. not that i'm sure, but that's what it sounds like to me. and youre bullied by your father. welly well.. this song is about superficial paty people.. yeah!

Like the rest of the album, this song is almost definitley about sex, the first part is touching upon the "perfect partner" the second part is like everyone wants to have sex because it's genetic, and the end, well, shucks you get the idea.

I always took "daddy" to mean pimp...

Most of the lyrics on Midnite Vultures defy analyzation, probably because it's his disco album, and the lyrics are subservient to the music itself. Regardless, there seems to be imagery here of a futuristic high society, where everybody's prosperous and free to be hedonistic.

Im listening it all the way through for the first time... the first time i heard it, i skipped it like 1/2 the songs on midnite vultures... there just too techno-ey.. but all i really have to say is... WTF??
