This song is a really powerful expression of one's mental anguish and existential dread, channeling the despair someone feels when they're overwhelmed by personal demons and societal decay. Yet beneath the bleakness, there's a search for meaning, or at least a hope that death will bring the peace life couldn’t offer. They don't want to be saved, just put out of their misery.

Testament is a one-of-a-kind band. The early pure thrash stuff is awesome and the later music that incorporates heavier, death metal-like sound is very good, too.
yap, Dave Lombardo is amazing! And guitars too.. it's best Testament song, imho.
think whenn it says "end my fears, contempt in life" it shows he wants to leave this life because he is contempt and wants his fears and sadness to go so he is dying to get away from it. also the first paragraph shows he can see the world is chaotic and only focused on pain and stuff and he's not sure if there really is any more to life than suffering I guess. but Idk.
