A Dying Wish Lyrics
I bear the seed of ruin
A golden age turned to stone
Elysium ..... to dust
For this, a tragic journey
A vision of a dying embrace
Scattered earth
Silence .....
Where Echonia wept
I sank into the silent desert
Fallen am I,
In the solitude of a broken promise
..... I cried alone
My empyrean is a scar
From the memory of her beautiful life
Forever was her name
Fulfilment lost in a lifetime of regret
Ornate peace would cover me
As I would die now .....
For one last wish
A golden age turned to stone
Elysium ..... to dust
A vision of a dying embrace
Scattered earth
Silence .....
I sank into the silent desert
In the solitude of a broken promise
..... I cried alone
My empyrean is a scar
From the memory of her beautiful life
Forever was her name
Ornate peace would cover me
As I would die now .....
For one last wish

I'm not exactly what this song means, and I could be completely off the mark, but here it goes!
"I bear the seed of ruin A golden age turned to stone Elysium ..... to dust"
That he ruins everything. He can turn the 'golden' age back to stone, and he can destroy the Elysium (home to the blessed). He's cursed.
"For this, a tragic journey A vision of a dying embrace Scattered earth Silence ....."
Because of this curse from destroying everything, he can never be happy and merely walks the earth alone (silent), and he sees a vision of someone dying with him.
"Where Echonia wept I sank into the silent desert"
Echonia seems to be the girl he loves(?) and they were together, and the curse kills her (the dying embrace).
"Fallen am I, In the solitude of a broken promise ..... I cried alone My empyrean is a scar From the memory of her beautiful life Forever was her name"
He loved her and promised to look after her maybe? But he's broken that promise and now must weep alone. His 'highest heaven' (empyrean) is now scarred because he will never get to go there from the curse killing the one thing he loves.
"Fulfilment lost in a lifetime of regret Ornate peace would cover me As I would die now ..... For one last wish"
She was the one thing that made him whole and now that she's gone he's consumed with all the regret from all that he destroyed.
The he says that he'd die for one wish. That wish could be lots of things, bring her back, be rid of the curse, be able to die, etc. We're sort of left in the dark on what it is.
I'm probably completely wrong but that's just the feeling I get from the song.
Either way, it's epic.
Echonia is most likely Echo in Greek mythology, look it up.
The song itself is about something that also resembles the myth in some way.
I think in the song, the dude's love has died, and it's his fault, so he cries and regrets it the rest of his life, and his last wish could be to reverse his mistake, and that would bring him peace.
This slightly resembles the myth, since because of Echo's curse her heart was broken by Narcissus, and for the rest of her life she repeats his last words, and there were she wept and perished only that sound could be heard again.
Also, Narcissus gets a curse, namely that could never love someone again except for his reflection, and that was impossible, and so he wept and perished too.
This song is the best old metal style Anathema song there is. What I don't understand is that you can see every element of their new style in this old style. It's just asthough someones tuned the radio better and got rid of the static giving a cleaner, clearer more perfected sound.
