Speak to me in a language I can hear
Humor me before I have to go
Deep in thought I forgive everyone
As the cluttered streets greet me once again

I know I can't be late
Supper's waiting on the table
Tomorrow's just an excuse away
So I pull my collar up and face the cold
On my own

The earth laughs beneath my heavy feet
At the blasphemy in my old jangly walk
Steeple guide me to my heart and home
The sun is out and up and down again

I know I'll make it
Love can last forever
Graceful swans of never
Topple to the earth

And you can make it last forever, you
Can make it last forever, you
Can make it last
And for a moment I lose myself
Wrapped up in the pleasures of the world

I've journeyed here and there and back again
But in the same old haunts I still find my friends
Mysteries not ready to reveal
Sympathies I'm ready to return

I'll make the effort
Love can last forever
Graceful swans of never
Topple to the earth
Tomorrow's just an excuse
Tomorrow's just an excuse

And you can make it last forever, you
Can make it last forever, you
Can make it last forever, you
Ever you

Ack, after reading the meanings posted about him and courtney, I'm in danger of thinking of that each time I hear it. Which actually is quite often cus its my ringtone. I am sometimes curious about what the writer's inspiration was, but always enjoy the song a little less after finding out. The cool thing about billy's lyrics is they are so poetic, you can really take them anywhere you want to go. Surprise!, This reminds me of a breakup. Most of the Pumpkins stuff does. But some of the lyrics that hit me the hardest are:

I can't be late, suppers waiting on the table- To me, I think of forcing myself to move on although I don't want to. The next happiness I'll know is waiting I just have to get there.

The earth laughs beneath my heavy feet- Noone cares how depressed you are, The world keeps turning no matter how you feel.

lose myself/pleasures of the world - of course, doing whatever it takes, no matter how destructive, to clear your mind.

tomorrow's just an excuse away- Your new life is waiting, just grow a pair.

You can make it last forever- To me, it means that you can feel like crap for the rest of your life if you let yourself.

So, that's how I see it. Not right, not wrong. Just my subjective view. Plus, I just wasted 45 minutes at work. Now its almost time to hit happy hour. Because guess what today is? It's my Birthday! And guess how old I am? If you guessed Thirty-three, you're right!

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
