Although Triad is an instrumental song, it still well closes off the trilogy of Disposition and Reflection well. The way I see it, Disposition is the beginning of the mind or the soul (the childhood, you could say, also shown in Lateralus "in my infancy"), where you have no experience with the world, you go entirely off of what you're told. Therefore, how you see the world (the "weather", or your "disposition") changes depending on what you're told, or what is "mention[ed] [..] to [you]". Reflection, then is the maturing of the soul. The adulthood, if you will, where you (possibly) realise that you don't need all of the things you think you do, and that selfishness and narcissism will do you little, but that instead you need to remove your ego (also known as your "self" per Carl Jung, whom Tool seems to have much interest in) to see the unified consciousness of man. This song feels like the explosion of reality that comes when you see this. All of a sudden, everything opens up to you, everything seems new again, you see all the things you were missing, and it all explodes with the energy of the song.
Tool are very spiritual and Triad could also be related to trinity or 3. Balance of mind, body and soul which equalls completion. Opposite energies balanced which end up with wholeness being the third element. The points of triangles are all connected balancing each other out.
That's how I interpret it anyways.
It's an intrumental song and it's suppose to be personal to us as well as Tool. Doesn't mean we will have the same meaning and they know that. It's how we feel when we listen to it which projects what's inside us.
I see this song as more or less a victory dance. For going through the album Lateralus and letting it change you into a better person, and then celebrating that change.
although this song has no lyrics, there is a meaning behind it

I get the feeling of rain pummeling down onto the soft ground and onto me as I run faster and faster and come closer and closer until I break free of everything known
this song is so amazing live. i saw it in boston and danny plays a 5 minute drum solo before the actual studio part begins. I actually thought the other day, "wouldn't it be nice if they released another 'Salival' kind of live tracks cd, they put this on it?"It puts sooo much energy into the crowd AMAZING!!
I just saw them live on the 21st and they played this song. Fucking amazing is all I gotta say. they brought out these two other guys to play a synthesizer and some kind of drums, Maynard was even playing guitar
Then we are all in agreement. THIS SONG KICKS ASS LIVE! This is my favorite song on the album but it sounds so much better live in concert. I will see them live in Oct. for the 4th time in the past year and so far they have played this every time. I suggest for those who havent seen Tool live, to get tickets and experience the greatest concert ever (especially when they play Triad)
Saw it live August 26th. The two people who came out were the lead singer and drummer of Tomohawk. The singer plays the sampler, and the drummer plays the extra set of drums of course. And the drum solo Danny Carey did for us was about 10 minutes long. Now if only I could see Ticks and Leeches live!!! cries
i saw this concert in Minneapolis on Sept. 4th, it was truly amazing, a life-changing expierence. Tool has so much complexity and art. Their live show blew me away. I loved when they played the Disposition-Reflection-Triad lineup. When they got to Triad, WOW, it was fucking amazing. The song itself lasted at least 15 minutes, with two samplers and two extra drummers, that brought out two-tom sets on a stand. Some members were from Tomahawk, and it was some of the best drumming I have ever heard. They made this song 3 times as good, as they did with all their songs, which is amazingly hard to believe if you hear the CD's. Tool is the best live band, and Maynards lyrics combined with these othe three geniuses, its an amazing show. Tool: BEST BAND EVER. keep your third eye open
