So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
You know, you
You make me feel so good inside
I've always wanted a girl just like you
Such a P-Y-T
Pretty young thing, ooh
Where did you come from, lady?
And, ooh, won't you take me there
Right away, won't you, baby?
Tendoroni you've got to be
Spark my nature, sugar, fly with me
Don't you know now is the perfect time
We can make it right, hit the city lights
Then tonight, ease the lovin' pain
Let me take you to the max
I want to love you (P.Y.T.)
Pretty young thing
You need some lovin' (T.L.C.)
Tender love and care
And I'll take you there, girl (ooh-ooh)
I want to love you (P.Y.T.)
Pretty young thing
You need some lovin' (T.L.C.)
Tender love and care
And I'll take you there
(Anywhere you want to go) yes I will, ooh
Nothin' can stop this burnin' desire to be with you
Gotta get to you, baby
Won't you come, it's emergency
Cool my fire yearnin'
Honey, come set me free
Don't you know now is the perfect time?
We can dim the lights just to make it right
In the night, hit the lovin' spot
I'll give you all that I've got
I want to love you (P.Y.T.)
Pretty young thing
You need some lovin' (T.L.C.)
Tender love and care
And I'll take you there
Yes, I will, yes, I will
I want to love you (P.Y.T.)
Pretty young thing
You need some lovin' (T.L.C.)
Tender love and care
And I'll take you there
Yes, I will
Pretty young things, repeat after me
Sing "na-na-na" (na-na-na)
"Na-na-na-na" (na-na-na-na)
Sing "na-na-na" (na-na-na)

tell me about it!!! that's what i've been angry about since the king of pop died, the majority of the die-hard fans defended him for sure, but the ones who believed he molested little boys are now putting him on a golden pedastal. hypocrites.
"if you don't like what i'm saying then won't you sla my face"
No, they put him on a pedestal for his music, and rightfully so. Separating the fallible man from the musician is the correct action.
