I'm not sure if any of the members of Rise Against claim edge but this song sounds like a Straight Edge song.
Edgers call breaking edge giving up, and even selling out. (something i never understood).
I think thats what this song is about. A friend disgusted that another friend broke their edge.

If you think Rise Against "sold out" with Appeal To Reason, you haven't listened to Self Titled. Only two songs on it, but they sound just like their old stuff in both of them. I was surprised that it was released after ATR. Also, ATR isn't even that bad. Sure its really mainstream, but you can't deny that its a decent album. Bleh.
For the people saying they sold out with Appeal to Reason, has it ever occurred to you that they're trying to get their message to a wider audience?

They sold long ago...right when Siren Song came out. They haven't been "true" since Revolutions. Also, Tim is a dick in real life. Really soured my opinion of these guys. Mr. Precision is awesome though, check out his current band Zero To Sixty.
