Asshole Lyrics

your brains went black
when she took back her love
and put it out into the sun
the birds did fly
when the heavens all went dry
and the cigarettes were smoking by themselves

she'll do anything
she'll do anything
she'll do anything
to make you feel like an asshole

call her name
she looks the same as you
question marks stretched across her skin
she dangles carrots
makes you feel embarrassed
to be the fool you know you are

she'll do anything
she'll do anything
she'll do anything
to make you feel like an asshole

Cover art for Asshole lyrics by Beck

I like how Beck plays guitar on the "One Foot In The Grave" album. He strums with so much force, he creates a sort of "ckssh" sound on the lower strings. Listen to "Cyanide Breath Mint" and this song, it's really clear on them. I actually throught he was using one of those ratchet percussion things the first time I heard it.

I love the chorus..."She'll do anything to make you feel like an asshole." Yum.

You should try to catch his performance of this at the Tibetan Freedom concert; it's an exceptionally good one.

I like the way that Beck makes an alteration on an all-too-large theme; a lesser writer would put the onus on the girl, but this is about his feeling an asshole, not considering her one. It lets us to make the judgment...

Tom Petty covers this song on one of his later albums.

Is it just my version or does he, like, clear his throat or something right before he sings "She dangles carrots..."?

Haha...

Yep. =D

He also coughs/weird sneeze on the song "Outcome" and then he sniffs.
