A Little More Love Lyrics

Night, is draggin' her feet
I wait, alone in the heat
I know, know that you'll have your way
'Til you have to go home
No's a word I can't say

'Cause it gets me nowhere, to tell you no
And it gets me nowhere, to make you go
Will a little more love make you start depending?
Will a little more love bring a happy ending?
Will a little more love make it right?
Will a little more love make it right?

Where, where did my innocence go?
How, how was a young girl to know?
I'm trapped, trapped in the spell of your eyes
In the warmth of your arms
In the web of your lies

But it gets me nowhere, to tell you no
And it gets me nowhere, to make you go
Will a little more love make you start depending?
Will a little more love bring a happy ending?
Will a little more love make it right?
Will a little more love make it right?

Gets me nowhere, to tell you no
And it gets me nowhere, to make you go
Will a little more love make you start depending?
Will a little more love bring a happy ending?
Will a little more love make it right?
Will a little more love make it right?

Gets me nowhere, to tell you no
And it gets me nowhere, to make you go
Will a little more love make you start depending?
Will a little more love bring a happy ending?
Will a little more love make it right?
Will a little more love make it right?

It's "start depending" not "star depending" and there is a comma between the two "knows"......I love this song but where is "Suddenly "at??

@crombiegirl00 Not sure if it's "start" or "stop" as the guy is having an affair with her, and a little more love on "his" side to his wife will have him "stop" depending on the singer.

Also should be written as "I know... know you..."

Pretty sure the "little more love" to which she is referring is sex. So the chorus translates as "if I give you more sex, will that make you love me. Surprisingly suggestive for the Queen of Clean.

@kerry650 The woman who sang "Make a move on me" and one of the dirtiest songs of all time, "Physical" is the queen of clean?!?!

This song popped into my head a few days before ONJ died. I didn't know much about her, and I wouldn't rank myself among the fans of ONJ, or anything--just being honest--but she always seemed cool to me, and this song was pretty big when I was a kid, and I liked it despite not knowing what it meant.

So, she died a few days later, and a couple of weeks after that, the song was in my head again. I got curious, read the lyrics, and...

WHOA!

One of the first things I gleaned from that second verse was that a guy seduced a younger person (perhaps an underage person, but definitely very inexperienced). The first verse by itself hints at what was once referred to as, "hit it and quit it." The verses point to an attempt to maturely reconcile all this with her needs, both carnal and emotional. She's going to try to show more love, hoping to make him feel...

This is a very unhealthy situation.

Also, according to Wikipedia, this song was written by her collaborator, who happened to be a guy. Quite a lot happens to guys that they don't talk about; but equally, thoughtful men see how some women get treated, and I suspect this was a song stemming from that. I think this adds an extra layer to things, while, on the surface at least, ONJ as a woman sings it to anchor it for women.

The lyrics are very disturbing if you ask me. Really sounds like the angelic Olivia is with someone who doesn't take No for an answer. She says No, he ignores her. She tells him to go, he doesn't. Then she constantly considers giving him a little more love, as that might make it right. Giving in to sex, obviously, to keep him with her! He has his way with her then he goes home! WTF?

Olivia was perhaps the perfect pop star, great voice, stunning beauty, those legs in her Midnight Special hot pants https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3_uO5Fa8Oo ! But you could see in her interviews she had fire in her, if she said No it meant No! So I do wonder what she thought when she read these lyrics.

As to Physical, I'm perfectly fine with that. She wasn't advocating submission like this song does.

It's when you have such strong feelings and attraction to a person that you can't resist them sexually, but you hope that it will all lead to true love in the end.

Song Meaning

She is in love with this man & he's not in love with her - maybe he is married - to him it's just physical relationship and a bit of fun. In the end he always leaves. She thinks that maybe if he loved her, a little more, he would realise that she's the one. Deep down inside she knows this will never happen - but she can't help being drawn to him. Even though she only has him for a little while, it's better than nothing to her.....

Song Comparison

@eightezzz Agreed. In the narrative on the album, this came in after Borrowed Time...

Ultimate end of the affair is tracked in Boats against the Current.

The song start with "night is dragging HER feets" So, it refers to a woman, not to a male???
