Close Your Eyes Lyrics

Tell me you had bad dreams last night
'Cause you were rolling in your sleep
Tell me you hate those bright street lights
Sometimes the shadows give you the creeps

Please, close your eyes
Please, if you don't want to say
Please, close your eyes
Please, what keeps you awake

Tell me the air up here's too thin
You can't fell the wind when it moves
Tell me the stars are made of tin
And that they're banging on the roof

Please, close your eyes
Please, if you don't want to say
Please, close your eyes
Please, what keeps you awake

The sun will rise
And keep your mind at ease
So close your eyes

Please, close your eyes
Please, if you don't want to say
Please, close your eyes
Please, what keeps you awake

this song is just gorgeous. Jump, Little Children is amazing. I love how they go form alll sweet and acoustic like this to rocking out like madmen in bodies. Awesome band.

i plan on singing this when i try out for chamber choir next year. even if my voice cracks (as it often does when i become suddenly nervous) i plan on woo-ing the choir director with the beautiful lyrics this amazing band has managed to put together.

This song IS beautiful. I get the feeling that the narrator has an idea of what is keeping "you" awake, and that it's something he doesn't want to hear, so he's begging "you" to say something like it's just insomnia or the air or bright streetlights or something mundane like that.

Oh, this is so beautiful...I especially love "Tell me the stars are made of tin and that they're banging on the roof" For the whole song, it's like he's trying to get the person to let him comfort them, but they won't let him get close enough to trust him with it, he just wants to be allowed to help. The first set of reaosns are the most mundane, and then there's the beautiful poetic verse, and the lovely line about stars, which I guess is trying to show the wider concpets that can make you sad, that are hard to put into words "the stars are madeo f tin" sounds like someone dissillusioned with the world, finding all the beautiufl things fake, and "banging on the roof" that they feel trapped and want to escape...it's one of those huge things that just crushes you sometimes but you can't explain why. I suppose he recognizes that, because the "the sun will rise and keep your mind at ease" is him giving up on understanding why the person's sad, but trying to offer generalized comfort anyway by tellign them it will be better in the morning. The way he sings the "please" over and over is one of the things I love most about the song, he puts so much emotion in it, it's a really tender, pleading sound.

I love this song, the desperate, yearning voice in which he sings 'please' just grips my heart everytime. I think the best description of the meaning of it that I ever heard was what my friend said when she gave it to me: "The lover is constantly emo about someone else, maybe an Ex, and the singer is kind of saying '...let's just pretend you're happy here with me, okay?' ". And if the pure emotion in the song is anything to go by, the situation and the pain is killing them both. Ihis is definitely one of my favourite songs, I could just listen to it over and over again.

if taken in a literal sense, this song could be interpreted as the writer speaking to a child , with "bad dreams" and the "creeps" i agree whoever he is speaking to he is certainly trying to comfort them
