Economy Of Mercy Lyrics
There's just two ways to lose yourself in this life
And neither way is safe
In my dreams I see visions of the future
But today we have today
And where will I find You?
And where will I find You?
In the economy of mercy
I am a poor and begging man
In the currency of grace
Is where my song begins
In the colors of Your goodness
In the scars that mark Your skin
In the currency of grace
Is where my song begins
These carbon shells
These fragile dusty frames
House canvases of souls
We are bruised and broken masterpieces
But we did not paint ourselves
And where will i find you?
Where will i find you?
In the economy of mercy
I am a poor and begging man
In the currency of grace
Is where my song begins
In the colors of Your goodness
In the scars that mark your skin
In the currency of grace
Is where my song begins
Where was I when the world was made?
Where was I when the world was made?
Where was I when the world was made?
Where was I?
I'm lost without You here
Yes, I’m lost without You here
I'm lost without You here
You knew my name when the world was made
And neither way is safe
In my dreams I see visions of the future
But today we have today
And where will I find You?
I am a poor and begging man
In the currency of grace
Is where my song begins
In the colors of Your goodness
In the scars that mark Your skin
In the currency of grace
Is where my song begins
These fragile dusty frames
House canvases of souls
We are bruised and broken masterpieces
But we did not paint ourselves
Where will i find you?
I am a poor and begging man
In the currency of grace
Is where my song begins
In the colors of Your goodness
In the scars that mark your skin
In the currency of grace
Is where my song begins
Where was I when the world was made?
Where was I when the world was made?
Where was I?
Yes, I’m lost without You here
I'm lost without You here
You knew my name when the world was made

I think it's a song about the difficulty of living the christian life. When we don't believe - there's no problem, but we must remember that we're going to die and to be judged; that's why this is an dangerous way. The second way means the people who decided to follow Christ. They always must be aware of dangers, especially of pride. We must remember not to teach God what He has to do. We often want to change whole world and make it better for everyone; we decide to support i. e. LifeAid, but we often forget about people around us (maybe at our street) who need our help.
This song is about how lost we are without Jesus. We're nothing without God's mercy. I love this song.
"In the economy of mercy I am a poor and begging man"
i think that line form the song is freaking awesome.
deigo rock music for life
"There's just two ways to lose yourself in this life And neither way is safe " I wonder about this...
"In the scars that mark Your skin" Definitely talking about Jesus
also "In the currency of grace Is where my song begins" makes me think.
Currency has many definitions and I've always thought of it in this song as pertaining to money. Like currency made of grace...God gives us this kind of currency/value in this economy of mercy. I don't know if that makes sense..I can't quite get it out right.. He's a "poor and begging man" but knows God gives us the currency of grace and that's the only currency we need in the economy of mercy.
Another definition of currency is the state of being current. Currency of grace...It is here and now. And God has mercy.
I'm an economics major and I really keep this song close to my heart. Nobody needs to be an economist in order to realize the importance of a currency in our veryfay lives and transactions. So here, God's grace is as important as currency in economics. Without currency in economics, the whole concept of economics will fall down because people will lose the power to trade with such ease and flexibility. God's mercy is the same in our lives. It serves as the currency which allows us to carry on with our lives eventhough we know we are sinful beings. It reminds us that we were bought by Christ's death.
"You knew my name when the world was made" This is awesome. Imagine the one powerful and awesome God knowing you by name and thinking of you when he made the world just fit for your survival and happiness. Won't that send you to grateful tears? :)
very well said. :)
very well said. :)
It also seems that he's trying to say in the midst of all the economics of the bad things (the second of the "two ways to lose yourself") there is the other way to lose yourself - grace, mercy in Jesus.
i am learning to breathe. You knew my name when the world was made favorite line. i also love this band and Jesus. they both make me smile and feel so at peace.
This is one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE Switchfoot songs...
It is about us being nothing without Jesus... God loves us and knew our names even before we were BORN!!
What better way to portray God's love... as an economy of mercy...
I feel he made it as an "economy" because we return that love by giving him our lives completely!!
AHHHHHHH LOVE THIS SONG!!!
