Rubella Lyrics

I'm inflamed with desire and it's spreading like wildfire
She doesn't know it but she'll soon be mine
It's just a question of time
Rubella

I'm insanely obsessed and I simply will not rest
She doesn't know it yet but she's the one
And I won't stop until I'm done
Rubella

And the heart that she has stolen has now swollen twice its natural size
I've lost six pounds since I laid eyes on her
Rubella

I'm in love with a girl, she's infected my whole world
She doesn't know it but she's inside me
And now I'm gone completely
Rubella

She explodes like a fist and she burns from the first kiss
I haven't told her but she's all mine now
I knew somehow I'd catch her
Rubella, Rubella, Rubella

For anyone who may not know, 'rubella' is a type of infectious disease, which also happens to sound a bit like a girl's name. most of us know that feeling of being 'infected' by someone... which is what makes this song great.

I really wanted the lyrics to be "She explodes like a CYST and she burns from the first kiss." I think it would have fit the song so much better! But being honest and listening to the pronunciation, it's clear he is singing "fist." Not sure why. Maybe they changed it because "cyst" was too gross-sounding?

This song was in the movie Angus (which was the most amazing movie of my childhood, and they cant release it on dvd, sadly)... and its exactly what it says. This guy sees this girl, but she doesnt see him...

@jackiwillbe I don't think 'Rubella' was in Angus. It was 'Mrs. You and Me." Also a great song!

@jackiwillbe I stand corrected. Rubella could be heard in the background in one scene with Angus. I think it's while he was working on his science experiment.

was wondering what the lines

"And the heart that she has stollen has now swollen to twice its natural size. I've lost six pounds since I laid eyes on her."

mean

cant find the meaning or even close to a theory any ideas?

This song sounds wonderful and the lyrics are fun and very clever. I agree with spamuel and mr-numb on why this song is so smart. It is a perfect little song, and nothing could improve it.

Jimnal, I think he is talking about how he is so lovesick that his heart feels like it is huge. Also, if you've ever been really infatuated with somebody, sometimes you forget to do things like eat regularly. I remember accidentally losing weight after falling in love. Lovesickness will do that to you, at least that is how I have interpreted...

@Jimnal Also some diseases can cause the heart to swell and the infected to gain weight. So as with everything else in this song, it's a double meaning.

To expand on spamuel's point, Rubella is the scientific term for chicken pox. Josh Caterer is using the metaphor to describe his romance, a very well used one may i add. Chicken pox is something which is 'safe' to have when you're young but dangerous to have when you're an adult, and you can only get it once in your life. As such that makes this love all the more strong. Great song.

@mr Rubella is German measles not chicken pox.
