Not The Red Baron Lyrics

not the Red Baron
not Charlie Brown
think I got the message figured
another pilot down
and are their devils with halos
in beautiful capes
taking them into the flames

not Judy G
not Jean Jean with a hallowed
heart
i see that screen go
down in the flames
with every step with every beautiful heel
pointed

not the Red Baron I'm sure
not Charlie Brown's wonderful dog
not anyone I really know
just another pilot down
maybe I'll just sing him a last
little sound many there know some girls
with red ribbons
the prettiest
red
ribbons

for the line "not Charlie Brown's wonderful dog" There's a song with the title "Snoopy vs. the Red Baron" by The Royal Guardsmen in the year 1966.

part of the lyrics goes: Now, Snoopy had sworn that he'd get that man So he asked the Great Pumpkin for a new battle plan He challenged the German to a real dogfight While the Baron was laughing, he got him in his sight

i'm not sure what this song means... but the stuff at the beginning is... "what language?" "no, dutch!" i think.

the song "baby let's wait" by the royal guardsmen is refferenced in tori's "winter" too. it's from the same album as "snoopy vs. the red baron"

I think the reason Tori kept the Dutch conversation in at the start is that she's like a radio operator in the war, and she's listening to the communciations on the radio about the fighting, and she's trying to make it out but it's not clear, so she has to guess from the tone of it - 'think I got the message figured [she's not sure] another pilot down'. it's all frantic and hard to get a handle on.

This was my take too. She's an allied radio op, and picks up the radio broadcast of a dutch pilot going down. He's calmly relaying his coordinates before meeting his destiny, and she's powerless to soothe or help him.

Either that or "more isolation on the piano floor boards" if they're were the sound engineers lol.

Tori spoke of her contempt or mistrust of men, in relationships. On tour she was surrounded by men of her crew and noticing how many of them were going through relationships where the woman was the cause of their pain. She witnessed the heart ache and realized that men are just as susceptible to abuse as women were. Not the red baron was, not my road guy

"Then of course in the record we move into a whole other moment. Not the Red Baron is the moment of compassion for all the men on the record. It's where I could see their planes crashing, I could see that they have a side too. And if their planes would crash I stared to gain compassion for their side of it." [B Side, 05/96]

This is my favourite Tori song. Why it strikes such a chord I have no idea. Possibly because the ideology of the Red Baron can be so applicable to every day life... if you delve to look closely...

this is a great tori song that you can relate to everyday life..but tori wrote this song about people dying of AIDS using the metaphor of a red baron shooting others down. You wouldn't get the AIDS theme until the end when she makes the reference to the red ribbons.

Given what NiNixDash722 said about this song being about AIDS there is another refrence to this in the song. "Not Judy G" I think refers to Judy Garland who had a habbit of marrying gay men and is a cult figure for the gay community.

I also agree With NiNixDash722, I, being a gay man do believe there does seem to be a fuzzy reference to being shot down by an enemy(virus).I think the devils in halos, a far throw here, but could possibly mean a lot of good people died, this wasn't a punishment from God. Just my 2 cents.

What exactly is she saying in the beginning of the song... before she starts singing?

Sounds a bit like... "What I wish?" or "What, my wish?" and then "No, touch!"

Maybe it's lines from a movie or play.. since there are many film references in the song. I don't know.

@dedgrrlsdance she’s saying “what language? “No, Dutch” and it has the radio in the background with men talking that you can’t really decifer
