It's not cold enough
Please put this side up
She is moving through
Can we show our faces now?

I'm not interesting
She's not turning green
Shameful as it seems
Can we show our faces now?

Endless climb
I am blind
Why can't I hear?
Color blind
Speaking a phrase
Instantly grown
I am blind
Waiting in line

It's not cold enough
Please put this side up
She is moving through
Can we show our faces now?

I'm not interesting
She's not turning green
Shameful as it seems
Can we show our faces now?

Endless climb
I am blind
Why can't I hear?
Color blind
Speak a phrase
Instantly grown
I am blind
Why am I sure?

    this song could be about kurt's inferiority complex;

the first four lines could be about seeing the person you're trying to impress, and her ignoring you, or jsut not noicing you, as she walks past [or 'moves through'] so you hide 'please put this side up' and get all embarrassed, and wait for her to go 'can we show our faces now?'

the line 'i'm not intreresting, she's not turning green,' the turning green bit could mean 'she's not getting jealous', or 'she's not impressed', and it seems shameful because he's opening himself up to get close to her, and she's not having any of it, and so he is embarrased or ashamed.

We all know that Kurt liked Tobi Vail from Bikini Kill, but for some reason she only liked him as a friend, and he could have exaggerated tis theme to encompass teenage inferiority in general.

As usual, i'm only suggesting this. i don't want to say it's definately about that in case someone thinks im wrong and decides to start a big slagging match about whos mother performs the most acts of fellatio

Here's my interpretation on this song.

    • It's not cold enough
    • Please put this side up

A lot of people prefer having the cold side up on their pillows. I myself. I routinely flip my pillow over during the night myself.

    • She is moving through
    • Can we show our faces now?

Perhaps it's a reference to two lovers or two strangers in the same bed together moving through the sheets, and afraid to show their faces to each other.

    • I'm not interesting
    • She's not turning green
    • Shameful as it seems
    • Can we show our faces now?

A lack of sex drive by not being interesting (In Bed) She's not turning green may be a reference to the fact that he thinks she might feel disgusted with the lack of interest he has. But when he sees she's not turning green (Not caring that he doesn't have interest) he begins to feel shame that this encounter really means nothing, but decides to go ahead with it anyway. There's nothing better to do.

That's my interpretation of this song. Any thoughts?

    Mike

I heard somewhere that this song is about witnessing a UFO. The bizarre music and confused lyrics seem to perfectly convey a sense of vertigo. Almost like climbing and climbing without actually ascending.

    "I am blind/ Speaking a phrase"

That line seems to refer to the possible opening of an extraterrestrial spacecraft and subsequent "blinding" of the writer who witnessed it, due to the lighting inside the ship. Then, the writer can hear some sort of jargon, "Speaking a phrase."

    That's just my two cents.

or he could be an alien baby trapped on earth n given no decent senses,(sight or hearing)n social senses as well with which 2 navigate n succeed in life, like an outcast although that meaning does seem a bit Scentless Apprentice-ish.Kurt did used 2 fantasize though that he was an alien baby dropped off on earth n watched from afar by his real alien parents

I think that kurtcomeback is quite right about this one, but we know kurt liked to put together lyrics written at different times which result in really difficult-to-understand songs...

I think he didn't talk about the meanings of their songs because he really liked people to doubt about them and keep listening over and over, just like I do, lol...

This song is awesome... it creates an unique atmosphere which puts me in a somber mood..

Look at the title of this song: Big Long Now. When you dont know by the lyrics what to think look at the title(the artist tend to put the title when finish the song, and says to people how could they read it) ... ... The song is about a moment you cant get out, with opressing feelings, maybe related to different moments of life.

It could be specifically about the end of a relationship:

It's not cold enough: You still have feelings for the other person Please put this side up: You still give advice and care for the other, you tell him/her how to do things, when its not really necessary anymore She is moving through: She is going away, letting you behind Can we show our faces now?: Can we say the things as they are? Im not interesting: You dont feel you have anything to offer (It happens when ending a relationship) She's not turning green: She seems fine Shameful as it seems: An embarrasing moment, big long now..

Endless climb/in this climb: You have to get over her Im blind: you dont know the way why cant i hear?: Why cant I hear myself? and my friends? Color blind: everything's confusing Speaking a phrase /instantly grown: you say something and the all are trying to tell you what to do and do a big fuss about it...they care but you dont want them to care... :S Im blind/waiting in line: waiting til' things get clearer

Why am Im sure?: Why am Im sure to end this?

However, its just a thought. I've recently passed through this and I find it helpful... dont care what Kurt try to mean... (I think he'd agreed with me lol :) )

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
