Sway Lyrics

my heart, your hands, gentle my friend
break me neatly, numb me sweetly

say you would, say you could
say you'd come and stop the rain
say you'd try and hold me tight
and you just give me away
make me high on lullabies
a melody for me to sway
say you would, say you could
and you don't do anything

come down heavy, try and steady
precious ladies, love you, love me...

say you would, say you could
say you'd come and stop the rain
say you'd try and hold me tight
and you just give me away
make me high on lullabies
a melody for me to sway
say you would, say you could
and you don't do anything

hold my head up to the lies that you feed me
i'll fall under the spell you cast as you let me down

say you would, say you could
say you'd come and stop the rain
say you'd try and hold me tight
and you just give me away
make me high on lullabies
a melody for me to sway
make me high on lullabies a melody for me to sway

say you would, say you could
say you'd come and stop the rain
say you'd try and hold me tight
and you just give me away
make me high on lullabies
a melody for me to sway
say you would, say you could
and you don't do anything

say you'd come and stop the rain...

I think this song could be interpreted in sooo many different ways. In a nutshell, it's about a guy saying one thing and doing another. The person could be abusive, unfaithful, committment-shy, not good at keeping promises, or just two-faced. The bottom line is, this guy is a liar, and he's causing the speaker of the song (Vanessa) pain instead of the comfort she deserves. I love the line "break me neatly" because it's proven during the rest of the song that this guy doesn't tactfully hurt her. Oh no...he goes all out to make her miserable. Sad song, but I have to admit, one of my favorites on the album. (If you don't have the album, GO GET IT! It's excellent.)

this song represents to me a guy who says that they are going to do one thing but end never quite get round to it. the whole 'make me high on lullabies' to me means that the guy in the relationship promises her soo much and makes her so happy, but again always ends up disappointing. such an amazing song!!

A liar! A liar the guy talked about in this song is! She is fooled and decieved by his charm and such, but that leads for her trouble because he breaks his promises and doesn't really care about her....I think this is the perfect theme song for Tom Riddle from Ginny Weasly of Harry Potter XD .......But thats just me ;) This song is pwetty, btw :P

it's about a guy that just keeps letting her down. he always talks but never acts. it's always 'say' but he never actually does what he says he will. she only wishes he'd be there for her, but her wishes are never granted. ultimately, she is weary and she feels hurt. there's no doubt that she recognizes his game and will move on..... this song is rapidly becoming one of my favorite songs on bnn. it's soo beautiful. lovin' the violin.

its about a guy who doesn't keep promises "say you would, say you could, say you'd come and stop the rain, say you'd try and hold me tight but you just give me away, make me high on lulluby's, a melody for me to sway, say you would, say you could, but you don't anything." my friend told me the other day that she thought it was really dirty...."my heart, your hands, gentle my friend" she said it sounds like they're doing something really nasty...but i find it lovely! i love this song!

^^^...."my heart, your hands, gentle my friend"

That's not gross. She's saying her heart is in his hands, and to be gentle with it, i.e. - don't break it.

I love this song.. if you listen close enough, you can kind of hear in the, \"Precious ladies,\" part, she\'s sounds mad, but then after, she says, \"Love you, love me.\" and her voice changes. It sound kind of like she has two different feelings about it.

I agree with the liar theory. At the end of the chorus, after all the "say you would" she sings "And you don't do anything". Sounds like a promise-breaker to me. Ah, how I can relate, to almost anything she writes!

The verses can be a bit confusing, but the chorus and the bridge really convey the meaning of the song. She's in a relationship with a guy and she knows that he's lying to her, but she wants him to lie because he's telling her what she wants to hear. She doesn't care that he's lying because he makes her happy. Ignorance is bliss. She makes herself believe him. She makes herself fall for him.

My favorite line is probably: "I'll fall under the spell you cast as you let me down". She knows he's going to lie and disappoint her, but she's convinced herself that she needs him to be happy, so she smiles and pretends that everything's ok.
