Make Your Own Kind Of Music Lyrics
Nobody can tell you
There's only one song worth singing
They may try and sell you
Cause it hangs them up
To see someone like you
You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
It can be nowhere
The loneliest kind of lonely
It may be lonely
'Cause to do your thing's the hardest things to do
You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
And if you will not take my hand
Then I must be going, I'll understand
You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
No no no no
Even if nobody else sings along
If nobody else sings along
There's only one song worth singing
They may try and sell you
Cause it hangs them up
To see someone like you
You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
The loneliest kind of lonely
It may be lonely
'Cause to do your thing's the hardest things to do
You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
Then I must be going, I'll understand
You gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind music
Even if nobody else sings along
Even if nobody else sings along
If nobody else sings along

Beautiful. I dunno why, but since hearing this on the 2nd season premiere of 'lost', it has been stuck in my head, so i can't stop playing it!
Like the member above me said, i saw it on the first episode of 'LOST'. I had to download it because it was stuck in my head. I think it speaks for itself. Just go your own way and make your own path. Dont follow others and if no one else follows or agree then it doesnt matter.
Hahha, I'll give this song the 3rd Lost shout out. Loving Desmond
Wow. LOST has done wonders for this song! It's where I first heard it too. I must have had it stuck in my head for about 1 and a half months after that.
I found an old Mamas and Papas record the other day in a second hand place. I freaked out because I had totally forgotten about this song.
It's about being different and how other people look at you, but you have to keep on doing your thing no matter how hard it is. At least that's how I see it.
The actual meaning I get from this song (non-Lost), is that maybe the record executives wanted her (or them) to keep making hit singles... the kind of songs they knew would sell. But Mama Cass just wanted to make "her own kind of music", the songs she wanted to make...even if nobody else sang along.
My mother used to cry to this song while she vacuumed… Lol… I love Damon Lindolf, he’s got the best taste on music. I confess I hadn’t heard this song before Lost. Foundation4life, you’re probably right on. The meaning I get from the song though is that you need to go ahead and do the things you like, that you think is best for yourself. Even if nobody wants to do it with you, you’ll might get lonely, but at least you’re doing what you want!
It was the 60s when our generation was shaking off the shackles of conformity and finding voice through music, politics, expressive fashions. before the war, what was before the war? The great depression and dust bowls in the USA, mass unemployment in the UK, the rise of fascism in Europe. Then came the war, huge loss of life and suffering. After that came peace, a new optimistic politics, high unemployment and a desire to shake off all the bad things that went before. the baby boomers were perhaps the luckiest generation in history.
It’s a lovely song and it tells the story of being an individual person and not conforming to the “rules” and “boundary’s” set by society.
