Crawling Lyrics
This song is awesome because it tells you a story that someone else has already been through and how it totally changed them as a person. It changed how they feel about themselves, it's changed how they look at themselves in the mirror, it's changed how others look at them. It has changed some of the key points about that person; as the song goes on, it tells how they person doesn't know what to do with themselves because they're such a total mess and no one wants to be seen with them. It also tells the untold stories of those people who never spoke up about how they've been treated by other people and by themselves. Those are the reasons I absolutely love this song and this band.
I have a friend that has panic disorder...when she heard this she got chills. This is almost exactly what is going through her mind when she's suffering from a panic attack. They're very scary and these words describe what she's thinking about how she's feeling... Fear is how I fall: the reason she always falls into these panic attacks is fear of everything around her Confusing what is real: when you're in them, everything around you doesn't seem real and it's hard to figure what is and isn't There's something inside of me that pulls beneath the surface: it's something inside of her and it's all she knows is that it's a medical problem caused by no apparent reason Consuming, confusing: it totally consumes her body and her mind and it's so confusing This lack of self-control is neverending: she has no self-control I can't seem to find myself again: she doesn't feel that she'll ever get out of it and this feeling acts as if it will never go away Too much pressure to take: it's an attack of extreme anxiety I've felt this way before: she's constantly suffering from these attacks Discomfort....: her physical and mental being are extrememly full of discomfort and no matter how hard she tries she can't get comfortable Distracting....: she can't think Against my will I stand beside my own reflextion: it's so haunting how she can't control herself and how surreal the whole seen is
If this makes sense or not to anyone...I know that if you just listen to these words, what is being described is everything that's spinning around in her mind in a matter of moments and this spinning will not stop. Fear consumes her body and she absolutely cannot get out of any of that fear...It's a horrible thing to go through, but this song and many, MANY other Linkin Park lyrics give her a sense of comfort...knowing that perhaps there's someone else who knows how's she's feeling or how she's felt...
Almost exactly what I get from the song. Except "Against my will I stand beside my own reflection" to me is the feeling of being detached from my own body almost as if I'm watching myself.

Wow nice explanation. This is exactly what I feel when I hear this song because I've also had anxiety problems and still recovering from it. You explain each part as if you had experienced them!!!

I really like this comment!!! I have ADHD and Anxiety and I feel something like this! I agree Linkin Park sort of reminds us that we are not alone. Thanks for the comment!

sane, you said "no real depth unless you go searching for it." You basically said that depth is supposed to be superficial. That makes absolutely no sense. Things may appear superficial but may actually have a real meaning, but one just has to look for it. Your statement contradicts itself.
My personal fav lp song. "Against my will i stand beside my own reflection" really hits home."Fear is how I fall, confusing what is real" probably the best line in this song. Fear has taken so much out of all of us, it can even be a barrier from the ones we love.
WTF IS WRONG WITH MOST OF YOU!!!
This song is about child abuse cus' if im correct chester was a victim of that Its not about drugs or ... butt penetrating... -_- And the video shows what Chester( or maybe someone else) was going through and ya know parts of songs sometimes mean what they say. Example- "these wounds will not heal" the girl in the video was hurt not drugged! If you think im dumb or something, save it for yourself.
That's what they wrote it about dude. But Chester sad himself you're supposed to make your own meanings based on your life.

'Crawling' narrates a phase in the life of few or one of the band members possibly now but most likley in the past. It is the coming to terms being on heroin. It is the thoughts of an addicted user, how they condemn themselves for 'using' (It’s haunting how I can’t seem To find myself again) yet, just see it as an easy way out (Without a sense of confidence, I’m convinced there's just too much pressure to take ) The person keeps on going back to the drug regardless of its consequences (crawling in my skin, these wounds they will not heal) Wounds wont heal due to the fact of frequent use. Because of the drug the person has lost himself, has gone into complete self hating mode. They know that the drug is harmful but see it a a right thing to do (Confusing what is real) Only after a period of being in denial does this person realise what the drug has caused and lacks esteem to get themself out of the circle the seem to go through. The song is stating that heroin/drugs is more then a physical thing and the mental side of it all is just or perhaps even worse.

@Ell one of the many nightmare symptoms of withdrawal from heroin is Restless leg syndrome which gives you a sensation of insects or worms crawling under your skin.

Umm this site truly is pointless. Music may has a different meaning to everyone. You apply it in your life
Not so! For example, there are SO many songs I cannot figure out, but after reading lyrical interpretations (and often reading a concensus), I "get" the song. Plus, it's fascinating to see how an individual's life experience (for example) has influenced what his/her ears hear:)

I disagree that this site is pointless, but completely agree that music has a different meaning to everyone. But really great music can be interpreted to many situations, many people but with depth of understanding and passion. Check out some of the explanations from people on this song.. the passion is clear. Simply, this is a good song.

Thank you for saying that. You’re absolutely correct. Everybody can apply in the way it fits for them.

I think why everyone loves this song is its how everyone feels somtimes... its what every teenager has felt.
Yep, it is POPular. So what.. AS far as the "bullshit" rhymes go, I don't know how they can be when so many people can relate to them. They sold what.. over 10 millio records. You telling me all those people didn't find meaning in the song. So what if they are simple, sometimes simple works. In my opinion the words you spew is bullshit. You have what, 2 hate posts. It makes me wonder, what's your goal really? Do you need attention? Anyways, let's see you write songs that millions of people will listen and relate to. Quit talking out of your ass.
We are all entitled to our opinion etc. etc.. But last I checked this place is about song meanings.. not what you think of it.
P.S. Don't be a smartass and tell me I'm doing the same thing, I wont be typing this if I didn't read your crap.
