It's the first time I ever felt this lonely
I wish someone could cure this pain
It's funny when you think it's gonna work out
'Til you chose weed over me, you're so lame

I thought you were cool until the point
But up until the point you didn't call me
When you said you would
I finally figured out you're all the same
Always coming up with some kind of story

Every time I try to make you smile
You're always feeling sorry for yourself
Every time I try to make you laugh
You can't
You're too tough
You think you're loveless
Is that too much that I'm asking for?

I thought you'd come around when I ignored you
So I thought you'd have the decency to change
But babe, I guess you didn't take that warning
'Cause I'm not about to look at your face again

Can't you see that you lie to yourself
You can't see the world through a mirror
It won't be too late when the smoke clears
'Cause I, I am still here

But every time I try to make you smile
You'd always grow up feeling sorry for yourself
Every time I try to make you laugh
You stand like a stone
Alone in your zone
Is it too much that I'm asking for?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Can't find where I am
Lying here
Alone I fear
Afraid of the dark
No one to claim
Alone again

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Can't you see that you lie to yourself
You can't see the world through a mirror
It won't be too late when the smoke clears
'Cause I, I am still here

Every time I try to make you smile
You're always feeling sorry for yourself
Every time I try to make you laugh
You can't
You're too tough
You think you're loveless
It was too much that I asked you for

This is such a great song that it's hard to believe that a 17 year old wrote it! I think this songs about a girl who fell for this guy, but he's nothing like she thought he was. He's so wrapped up in himself and his front that he can't see how he's hurting her and himself. Around everyone else, he's this tough guy and all she wants is for him to smile, tell her that she's not stupid for taking a chance, again. This song means a lot to me because about a year ago, i lost someone very close to me because of drugs. He became so wraped up in himself that he couldn't even all the lies that he was feeding himself. I like the line: "Its the first time I ever felt this lonely I wish someone could cure this pain Its funny when you think its gonna work out Til you chose weed over me, you're so lame I swear, Avril must of been a fly on the wall in my house because this hits so close to home.

I haven't heard the song, so I can't say if I like it or not, but I don't think it's hard to believe a 17 year old wrote it. Young people write stuff like this all the time. I am not saying this is a bad song, nor am I dissing her, so hope nobody leaves me a hate note.

why wouldn't a 17 year old write something like this? i've been through that almost exact thing as well as worse and i'm 17... and i've written plenty. but meh i guess its not important i just didn't understand why that would be anyone's first thought, or second or third or fourth thought for that matter.

what does this song mean to me....eh, everything. :oP it's the perfect description of me and my ex. the part where it says "til you chose weed over me"...you could change weed to alcohol...and it's him. he DID always feel sorry for himself (don't know why, he has everything in the world...) and this part: -I thought you'd come around when I ignored you -So I thought you'd have the decency to change i ignored him for about two weeks when we started drifting (because usually he'd come and apologize) and we just sorta...stopped. the whole decency thing really hit close because during the time that i we were...whatever...i wrote a three page letter to my best friend about how my ex should have had the decency to inform about what was going on...

    i dunno....i love this song :o)

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
