Albatross Lyrics
Well I'm feelin' left behind, Lord what a waste of time
They're coming to get you, run on
How can I respect your crime
When all you criminals whine
They bought and sold you, run on, run on
You can call me crazy
You can call me wrong
Cause I was born a liar
Albatross fly on, fly on
My home is kind, man it pays to be blind
I promise to forget you run on
No swallowed pride, no conspiracy lined
Broken promise of the virtue, run on, Lord run on
You can call me lazy
But I know where I belong
Cause I was born a liar
Albatross, fly on, fly on
With your trust in love from your God above...
I believe the Albatross is me
You can call me lazy
You can call me wrong
Cause I was born a liar
Albatross, fly on, fly on
I should have seen the signs
Now the memories far behind
It was no big loss,
Fly on, Albatross yeah
They're coming to get you, run on
How can I respect your crime
When all you criminals whine
They bought and sold you, run on, run on
You can call me wrong
Cause I was born a liar
Albatross fly on, fly on
I promise to forget you run on
No swallowed pride, no conspiracy lined
Broken promise of the virtue, run on, Lord run on
But I know where I belong
Cause I was born a liar
Albatross, fly on, fly on
With your trust in love from your God above...
You can call me wrong
Cause I was born a liar
Albatross, fly on, fly on
Now the memories far behind
It was no big loss,
Fly on, Albatross yeah

I think there's more irony here than has been mentioned. While on the one hand, it's about being the albatross --your own worst enemy... not perfect, fumbling, it's also about being fully aware of that fact, and almost proud of it. Very least telling the world to step back and give some space. I interpret "my home is kind, man it pays to be blind" basically as: ignorance is bliss. I'm not understood, respected, whatever, and it would sure as hell be easier if I didn't pick up on that or have to deal with it. And the criminal who wines is someone who shows regret or makes feeble excuses --rather than just owning up. "No swallowed pride"...Yep. I did that! Or..yeah, this is me. I wonder if the "cause I was born a liar" is almost sarcastic. Because the last thing I would expect someone to do in these shoes, at this time, is to lie. To me, its seems more like passive and cynical kiss off just before shooing someone away. "Run on" you are bothering me...as the albatross continues on his way.
@plum500 ...an old curmudgeon, probably called lazy and crazy that says "don't tell me your problems" when someone runs to him and says the sky is falling. His answer: No shit (they're coming to get you... they bought and sold you..."idiots"). "You know...I could have done this and that... Meh, what a waste of time, no big deal anyway, screw it". Irony of all that is, someone with that approach, I think truly feels regret and is probably in frustration and denial.... and is trying to conceal the whining referenced in the first verse. I dunno. this song to me sounds like it is about a free spirited person that doesn't let the conventions of society hold him down - fly on albatross
A great song, COC's best in my opnion.
They have that unique southern rock style sound, the guitar is always loud. Love these guys.
it has more to do with drugs and alchohol. albatross was in old times a reference to a certain addiction. so gvsupimp has the right idea but more with getting messed up.
Apparently at one gig, Pepper introduced this song and said.."this song is dedicated to the fine art of smoking pot".
I still can't figure it out. Beautiful tho. It does soar.
Since nobody mentioned it, an albatross is a seabird with a huge wingspan. An albatross was always a symbol of bad luck, especially in nautical terms. I believe (but I'm not sure, so don't quote me) that they fly far, far away from land for fish, and sailors who were stranded at sea knew they were going to die when they saw the albatross, because they knew they were far from shore. So when people call something an albatross, it's just like a bad luck charm or a bad omen. So keep that in mind when interpreting this song.
@Muck Man Little way off there....Albatross was a bird of good omen... read Ryme of the ancient Mariner. ... .or listen to Iron Maidens version....same bird.

yeah he said that at a show i went to, hence "my home is KIND." The albatross is like KC said its a person's handicap or the one thing that keeps them back. So I think he's saying pot is the one thing that keeps holding him back.
all i know is that my teacher(percussion) told me that an albatross is a big klumsy bird that looks like a cripple trying to walk when it trys to fly. it's just an all around ungraceful , klutz of a bird.
littlehugs is an ass.
Pepper said: "This tour we're doing with disturbed is so fucking ridiculous man. The average Disturbed fan is a fucking kid that likes going to the mall..."
Back to the song, now that you're saing thats about pot i can understand the sense of freedom that he is trying to imply in the music and lyrics///
