@[plum500:1952] ...an old curmudgeon, probably called lazy and crazy that says "don't tell me your problems" when someone runs to him and says the sky is falling. His answer: No shit (they're coming to get you... they bought and sold you..."idiots"). "You know...*I* could have done this and that... Meh, what a waste of time, no big deal anyway, screw it". Irony of all that is, someone with that approach, I think truly feels regret and is probably in frustration and denial.... and is trying to conceal the whining referenced in the first verse. I dunno. Might just be a song about a big bird :)

I think there's more irony here than has been mentioned. While on the one hand, it's about *being* the albatross --your own worst enemy... not perfect, fumbling, it's also about being fully aware of that fact, and almost proud of it. Very least telling the world to step back and give some space. I interpret "my home is kind, man it pays to be blind" basically as: ignorance is bliss. I'm not understood, respected, whatever, and it would sure as hell be easier if I didn't pick up on that or have to deal with it. And the criminal who wines is someone who shows regret or makes feeble excuses --rather than just owning up. "No swallowed pride"...Yep. I did that! Or..yeah, this is me. I wonder if the "cause I was born a liar" is almost sarcastic. Because the last thing I would expect someone to do in these shoes, at this time, is to lie. To me, its seems more like passive and cynical kiss off just before shooing someone away. "Run on" you are bothering me...as the albatross continues on his way. |
