The interplay between the two different guitar lines and bass on this song are incredible. And the strings at the end. Pop candy. Teenage Fanclub was influenced by Big Star; I can't help but think that this song relates in some way to September Gurls ("December boy's got it bad"). Something bad happens at the holidays...
