Lowdown In The Street Lyrics
Well there comes Lola, out of control-a:
She just loves those rhythm and blues.
And miss Ivy will be arriving;
in leopard skin tights she's willing to cruise.
It's a fiend scene and it happens 'bout once a week.
So fork over some bread, it'll do your head to get low down in the street.
There's Jimmy and Jojo, there's Kim and Keith,
Way outside the eyes of cool.
And sweet M.B., and there's little G.B.
Everybody wants to be their fool.
It's a fiend scene and it happens here ev'ry week.
Fork over some bread, it'll do your head to get low down in the street.
Some nights are lonely, some nights are lazy,
but ain't nobody try and slip away.
They'll make you loose. They'll make you crazy.
Know what I mean, what you say, what you say.
It's a fiend scene and it happens 'bout once a week.
So roam on in, it ain't no sin to get low down in the street.
She just loves those rhythm and blues.
And miss Ivy will be arriving;
in leopard skin tights she's willing to cruise.
So fork over some bread, it'll do your head to get low down in the street.
Way outside the eyes of cool.
And sweet M.B., and there's little G.B.
Everybody wants to be their fool.
Fork over some bread, it'll do your head to get low down in the street.
but ain't nobody try and slip away.
They'll make you loose. They'll make you crazy.
Know what I mean, what you say, what you say.
So roam on in, it ain't no sin to get low down in the street.

This song is about the scene in Austin, TX back in the 70's when the blues was really taking root. "The Street" refers specifically to 6th Street in downtown Austin (but could also have meant the Austin scene in general), which is still a Mecca for lovers of the dirty blues to this day - albeit very "hipster-ized" and not very reminiscent of the way it was a few decades back. "There's Jimmy and Jojo, there's Kim and Keith" specifically refers to Jimmy Vaughan, Kim Wilson, and Keith Ferguson - members of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Not sure who "Jojo" is, but he was not a member of the T-Birds unless it was a nickname not related to his real name. Not sure who "Lola", "Miss Ivy", "Sweet M.B.", and "Little G.B." are/were, but I suspect they may have been some of the local "working girls" who frequented the area back then. Awesome, rockin' tune!
