Buenas Tardes Amigo Lyrics
Buenas tardes amigo
Hola, my good friend
Cinco de Mayo's on Tuesday
And I hoped we'd see each other again
You killed my brother last winter
You shot him three times in the back
In the night I still hear mama weeping
Oh mama, still dresses in black
I looked at every fiesta
For you I wanted to greet
Maybe I'd sell you a chicken
With poison interlaced with the meat
You... you look like my brother
Mama loved him the best
He was head honcho with the ladies
Mama always said he was blessed
The village all gathered around him
They couldn't believe what they saw
I said it was you that had killed him
And that I'd find you and upstand the law
The people of the village believed me
Mama... she wanted revenge
I told her I'd see that she was honored
I'd find you and put you to death
So now... now that I've found you
On this such a joyous day
I tell you it was me who killed him
But the truth I'll never have to say

Some good words said about this song. In response to kaboutit's logic:
"The line "The people of the village believed me" implies that he fooled them. Why state "they belived me" if its true?"
The first time I heard this song, I figured he was referring to the fact that he claimed he would seek out and kill his brother's murderer. This isn't really a dead giveaway, for that reason.
My favourite thing about this song is the subtleties in the way it's sung, which aren't easy to explain with direct citations from the text alone. Especially when he says "you, you LOOK like my brother," you can hear his voice tremble, and on the second or third listen you can imagine him pointing a gun the whole time that he's singing, which really works wonders.
This song is a beautiful example of how Ween's genre experiments are both parodies and homages.
That line LITERALLY came on as I read your comment! Very true. Definitely one of Ween's best stories/characters. It's pretty clear it's about a guy who was jealous of his brother and so killed him, blamed another man and set out to serve justice, in the process getting away with the murder of his brother, appearing as a hero and winning the favour of his grieving mother. Someone should make this into an epic western film, or a short film at least!

And then he blew him up with an atom BOMB!!!
this song is alot better live but has a really cool story, and for vulvalove, how can you say it's not like any other ween stuff, when practically every ween song is different in their own humble ways
"When he says "you, you LOOK like my brother," you can hear his voice tremble, and on the second or third listen you can imagine him pointing a gun the whole time that he's singing, which really works wonders."
Dead-on, same as what I got from it.
I think this song is marvellous!!!!!! I love how every song on chocolatre and cheese is different.... however I am unsure as to whether he shot him self or the random dude..... It could be taken in the sense he's talking about himself.....
@budman
Ween making fun of somebody in one of their songs? Never.
I didn't like this song until I heard it live. AMAZING.
I really think this song is fairly strait forward although some disagree. To me it has always been about a guy who kills his brother and blames it on some other guy (who he later kills)
The motive : Throughout the beginning part of the song the lyrics and inflection make the singer very jelous of his brother....
"Mama loved him the best He was head honcho with the ladies Mama always said he was blessed"
The line "The people of the village believed me" implies that he fooled them. Why state "they belived me" if its true?
The linch pin of course is: "I tell you it was me who killed him But the truth I'll never have to say"
I mean that prety much says he killed him and now that he killed the guy he blamed it on hes scott free.
Just my 2 cents
me and my mexican freind play this a lot, it's fun
The first time I listened to it I thought it was a joke of a song. Then I realized it was in fact amazing, not only the plot (tough not a masterpiece) blew me away, like you said, with all its subtleties, but the Mexican desert atmosphere it creates with the guitars and hand claps, and the air of mystery highlighted by the synths are memorable too.
Buenas... noches... amigos :)
