Seventeen Lyrics
You're only twenty nine,
Gotta lot to learn.
But when your mummy dies,
She will not return.
We like noise it's our choice,
It's what we want to do.
We don't care about long hair,
I don't wear flares.
See my face not a trace,
No reality.
I don't work I just speed,
That's all I need.
I'm a lazy sod...
I'm a lazy sod...
I'm a lazy sod...
I'm so lazy...
Yawn.
I'm a lazy sod...
I'm a lazy sod...
I'm a lazy sod...
I'm so lazy,
I can't even be bothered.
Lazy,
Lazy.
Gotta lot to learn.
But when your mummy dies,
She will not return.
It's what we want to do.
We don't care about long hair,
I don't wear flares.
No reality.
I don't work I just speed,
That's all I need.
I'm a lazy sod...
I'm a lazy sod...
Yawn.
I'm a lazy sod...
I'm a lazy sod...
I can't even be bothered.
Lazy,
Lazy.

this song is anti-hippie. you are "just" 29 years old and you are still living your mommy and daddy. Get out of the house, do something with your life although you may think sometimes there's no future but give it your best shot.
I'm about to 29...depressing. I remember when I was 17, it was when I was first really into this song!

Have you heard the demo vers. of this they recorded with Glen Matlock, from the pre-Bollocks-session called "Spunk" as a bootleg? I noticed that the "...And we don't wear flares" lyric is actually quite intelligible, as opposed to the version on the album, where I swear that is not what he's saying. I've never been able to tell what anything sensible out of Bollox version of that line - sounds like "I don't wear MAR-TEZ!"

According to legend it was written about Sid Vicious. That would explain that "I'm a lazy Sid" is sung at some part.
@Zero As A Limit but these lyrics just leave that bit out completely

@Zero As A Limit 20 years later so uh, this couldn't hurt.. This song is only one of a very, VERY limited numbers that where created BEFORE John Lydon joined the band. Lyrics written by Steve Johns when he was the singer with Wally writing the guitar section in 1972-73, predating Sid being in the band by 3 years. Whats crazy is that John and then later, everyone else, had to fight in order to get royalties from their own music as it was being collected by Malcolm in 1986.(See chapter:Legal Pie Fight in John Lydons book, "No Irish, No Blacks,...

Wally received his first Royalties check in May 7th 1996, one day after his suicide.
John said it is about being seventeen and seeing there is no future without even caring about it
johnny rotten says, this song is about being young and having nothing to do, the stage every teenager goes through
We like noise, it's our choice! I love this verse. But I think lyrics "I'm a lazy Sid" are just a word game. Don't know for sure, though.
this song is so underrated - its good
Great stuff not very pro hippy hair we don't care about long hair. The Sex Pisotls say they hated hippy's. I love the version when he shouts "I can't even make porridge during the I'm a lazy sod etc. So great I sometimes say that for kicks.
It's not "I can't even make porridge"!! lol The real lyrics are right there - "I can't even be bothered!" Actually, it's funny because I used to think it was "I can't even make my bed!!" So, no offense intended, it's not always easy to understand all of Johnny's words, great though they may be. Also, I don't know if this is worth "sub-mission" to the site as a correction, but I'm almost %100 sure that they say "I'm a lazy 'SID'" instead of "sod" at least once - I believe it's when they come back into the 2nd and final chorus, the 2nd...

"I'm a lazy sod....I'm a lazy SID...I'm a lazy sod - I'm so lazy, I can't even be bothered..." etc. Anyone else hear that/can provide any evidence to prove those are correct lyrics?
Yeah, it definitely sounds like "I'm a lazy Sid" where the 5th "sod" should be....

I think Sid just wanted attention. Like always... Great song tough, I can listen to it for ages. :D
I thought I also heard at one point "I'm a lazy Sid"...yah....weird! LOL. It's probably about someone that thinks they have it all until they end up losing everything because they ruined it and didn't show a sign of caring.
@dark_eyez_666 The Sid of that lyric is more than likely about the same person mentioned in 'Bodies'. That being Pauline
