Satellite Lyrics

I'll understand if you're not feeling well enough to write
I'll understand if you've got way too many things to do you see I've been sitting here for an hour trying to finish what I started Now it seems every line gets harder and never really what I wanna say So I hope this letter finds you well It's taken me a little while to sit and spell out everything I wanna say But I think I'm ready to convey You're the reason that I play at all You got me thinking how a song can change it all If there's any wonder how I made it through Well I tell them that's between me and you, well Someday I'll thank you if I see you around But for now I'll just keep this letter to myself And a song I'll probably never sing for you Like a satellite Spinning 'round my head in sound You got me thinking how a song can change it all If there's any wonder how I made it through Well I tell them that's between me and you, well Someday I'll thank you if I see you around But for now I'll just keep this letter to myself And a song I'll probably never sing for you Like a satellite Spinning 'round my head in sound When you're sixteen and you're full of pain Yeah nothing matters much but the sound of broken bottles and hearts And the ties that bind you to what you can't ignore In a world where I had no control I used my voice as a weapon that I could hold I screamed and shouted until I played I meant every single word I said You're the reason that I care at all You got me thinking how a song can change it all If there's anyone that I want to hear Well nothing's ever been so clear Someday I'll thank you if I see you around But for now I'll just keep this letter to myself And a song I'll probably never sing for you Like a satellite Spinning 'round my head in sound Like a song I won't forget Oh satellite spinning 'round my head Like a song I won't forget When we're all grown up and looking for that anger nothing matters much But the reasuring sound of a voice buzzing through the stereo All this imagery and sound With words that bite and tear out So watch me for myself Again now I found my voice again now.

It sounds like he had a mentor or a teacher who understood his love for music and writing and this teacher encouraged him through tough times and now he is thanking that person for being there and showing confidence in his work.

I agree with you.. prehaps the person is jim cherry, who recently died. he played bass in strung out, then he got kicked out and he and jason hadnt spken to each other in the 4 years before jim died. in an letter jason wrote in response to jim's death he thanks jim for giving him a chance to do what he wanted more than anything (form a band) he also credits jim for helping him become a better song writer. and he's great at that .

It seems like he's saying that someone close to him inspired him to song-write, (probably Jim, yea..) and he wants to say thanks in his own way. "you're the reason that I play at all"...so touching. I can actually relate to this, although in a different way, because I've always got so much to say to those close to me -- but never know just how to put it. "I've been sitting here for an hour trying to finish what I started Now it seems every line gets harder and never really what I wanna say"

this song is so good. its my favorite off the new album. i agree with the rest of you...he wants to thank someone that was very important in his life, but he never had. hes also saying that it doesn't matter if the person doesn't respond or doesn't want to say anything, he just wants to be able to say this to the person. I really like the last line of the song. it definatly wraps up the song well

I've heard it's about Greg Graffin, and that's no surprise to me, since Jason really likes Bad Religion

The idea of writing this song about Jim Cherry is a very good one, but correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't American Paradox completed before the passing of Jim? I can definitely see this song being written for Greg Graffin. The lyrics all point toward someone who can write songs with deep meaning, and we all know that Mr. Graffin is excellent at that. Just my two cents.

I would have to agree that the song was written before his passing. Although i think it would give more meaning to Cherry, i guess i could see it going to Greg Graffin. I am not aware of a connection between the two that would lead to this, though. If you read the letter about Jim's passing, you would have seen him talk about him helping with the song writing when he was in high school. Ditching class and scribbling in his notebook. I think that would justify "You're the reason that i play at all." Just a mix of both opinions. He might have meant it for Greg, but it makes great sense for Jim

he was basically saying thanks to Jim for teaching him how to write songs. even though american paradox was written before Jim passed away, he wasnt in the band when this album was being written.

They've hinted that the song is for Ozzy, but never gone right out and said it. The song was written before Jim passed away and their relatonship was a bit strained at that point (See Kill Your Scene)

I really think its about everyone whos helped him become a better song writer. Mostly Jim Cherry.
