I Won't Walk Away Lyrics
A lonely street lamp
I'm out on the street walking home
A small pale blur
Leaving trails like a snail
I move so slow
Time can bruise
Violent indigo
Rush home to your arms
You soothe my weary soul
CHORUS
Wrong or right
Be mine tonight
Harsh world be damned
We'll make a stand
Love can bind
But mine is blind
Others stray but I won't
Walk away
Walk away
The clubs are full
Of couples resisting being one
They wear their youth
Like badges that tarnish all too soon
We'll be a team
Our two will be one
Love will be our fortress
When all else comes undone
CHORUS
Sometimes the world don't make sense
Small children filled with violence
Let our light shine through the night
CHORUS
I'm out on the street walking home
A small pale blur
Leaving trails like a snail
I move so slow
Time can bruise
Violent indigo
Rush home to your arms
You soothe my weary soul
CHORUS
Wrong or right
Be mine tonight
Harsh world be damned
We'll make a stand
Love can bind
But mine is blind
Others stray but I won't
Walk away
Walk away
Of couples resisting being one
They wear their youth
Like badges that tarnish all too soon
We'll be a team
Our two will be one
Love will be our fortress
When all else comes undone
Small children filled with violence
Let our light shine through the night

What, nobody’s commented on this? I love that it’s so simple, so true. In the first verse you can almost picture her walking home under a lonely street lamp, and we know she’s had a past, like everyone: “Time can bruise, violet indigo,”...that’s beautiful. But all she feels like doing is going home, where he is. The chorus has cheesy lyrics but they’re so simple and so honest that it makes it really beautiful.
I agree, cheetah. This is one of my favourite Jewel songs. It starts so sad, so depressing but the end is really potent and it leaves you a very different taste.
her voice is sooo...OMG! it really touches my soul.
One of my favorite Jewel songs (or maybe it is my favorite - it's quite close with Where You Are and Hands)
I love the lines: The clubs are full Of couples resisting being one They wear their youth Like badges that tarnish all too soon We'll be a team Our two will be one
and: Sometimes the world don't make sense Small children filled with violence Let our light shine through the night
Two people are stronger than one. A couple are greater than the sum of their parts (individuals). It is such a positive message. I love that about so many of Jewel's songs.
