brilliant. not really written as a motivational song, but it sure plays like one. I think the line "wake up knowing you'll never be there," is the most important and powerful in the song. And it's so about me a few years beack, trying to get over losing someone, making a 100 resolutions but never following through with them. "i've got one song i write 100 times and only a dozen or so rhymes" probably refer to him having difficulty in writing new material (obviously this is not true), which is also a by-product of the stagnant, yet slowly declining rut the protagonist's life has become.

the thing about this song that i thought was really fucking awesome was, that in the chorus, chris says 'this is MY year for sure', then by the end of the song, he sings 'this is OUR year for sure'. it's a small detail to the song but i thought it was really fucking cool.
One of my favorite alltime Lawrence Arms songs, this is my anthem for the new year, it really does motivate me
Lawrence Arms, though they seeming to be dropping the political/social commentary that resonated from the Broadways, never fail to awe me. "I've got 100 resolutions, but I've got no solutions" is such a great line, as is "Another explosion of silence. I think I'm going deaf. Or maybe I'm just hearing less."

awh, i just saw these guys on the plea for peace tour, and while they were inbetween songs, me and my friend yelled "play detention" and branden looked at us and said "pardon?" so we repeated ourselves and he looks at the band and they all agree, and he says "this is for the ladies right there!" and they played it. so cute. we talked to them after the show and they are extremly nice and funny guys. if you get the chance to see them, it's deff. worth it.
This song....probably one of my favorite TLA songs...and I've got a lot of favorite LA songs....but this one resonates with me espeically, and i don't know why. i think it's just easy for some people to relate to their songs, and i'm one of those people.
