Ghost Stories Lyrics
raindrops fell without rage
eyes half-closed
skin like dark gray metal
inanimate and cold
another flame to my face
the smell of sulfur lingering away
you're here for the perforation of the heart
precise incisions; anesthetic dreams
it's broken like a ticking watch that need repairs
shattered glass, exposed face, waiting to be wound
wounded like a friend of mine
who eased his pain by killing
not letting it kill him
when you wake up you won't remember anything
but that night the ghosts wailed in the windstorm
cries sharp like a crescent moon
a sickle grazed against the skin
my breath fogged up the window
so i let the night breathe in
i let the ghosts into my room
and listened to their screams
incessant whisperings
singing like music to my ears
a flash of life like lightning
electric blinding blue
reminded me of me
eyes half-closed
skin like dark gray metal
inanimate and cold
another flame to my face
the smell of sulfur lingering away
precise incisions; anesthetic dreams
it's broken like a ticking watch that need repairs
shattered glass, exposed face, waiting to be wound
wounded like a friend of mine
who eased his pain by killing
not letting it kill him
but that night the ghosts wailed in the windstorm
cries sharp like a crescent moon
a sickle grazed against the skin
my breath fogged up the window
so i let the night breathe in
and listened to their screams
incessant whisperings
singing like music to my ears
a flash of life like lightning
electric blinding blue
reminded me of me

This is one of the best songs on Apathy and Exhaustion
corrects above message this song isn't from Apathy and Exhaustion but from of course Ghost Stories
I think this song is about the death of a friend. He starts off by describing the corpse "skin like dark grey metal/ Inanimate and cold." The friend is fighting, and just "killing time," (I think that's the full lyric in the song) to ease his pain, but it is obvious that he is going to die. "When you wake up, you won't remember anything," Eventually, it's going to be forgotten and the pain will subside, but "that night the wailed in the windstorm/ Cries sharp like a cresent moon//my breath fogged up the window, so I let the night breathe in/ I let the ghosts into my room..." He immerses himself in the pain and lonliness of the loss of his friend. This is an amazingly well written song and has a very powerful meaning.
