When Josh wrote this he was feeling really empty. He knew this person, and he trusted him/her so much. He always ran to that person, with every single problem, though the person was a backstabber, and shouldn't have his trust. But this was the only person that he could talk to. So he runs into this persons arms for help, every single time, knowing that something bad will hit him. If you don't talk to someone, you could go insane.
i somewhat agree with you, He was feeling empty and he did trust this person but i think the person is God. I can relate to this song just because i know how hard it is to be a christian and how hard it is to try and pick yourself up off the ground and God's willingness, as much as we should listen to him most of the time we dont, it never seems to change my mind, but we should put our trust in him.

As for the song, I think it's more of reflecting on how something turned out when you go and try do something on your own with or with out God's input.
