Beltaine Lyrics

Underneath the neolithic sky
Where the beasts are so proud to die
Across the sea of a million dreams
Where nothing is as it once seemed
I hear the Pan Pipes playing
In what the wind is saying
Here comes the fallen angel
Here comes the long-dead god
Back from the years in exile
Here comes the wild Pagan heart
And the May Queen sings her song
For her consort who is gone
Children mourn the loss of Pan
Whom Death banished from this land
It has been two thousand years
The earth is soaked with blood and tears
The once-great Lord of the Hunt lies slain
His bride’s a-burning in the flame
Mother Earth lies raped and poisoned
The final day draws ever closer
To a time of ice and fire
She shall be a funeral pyre

I love this song so much! I got the idea for a few poems from this. This was the first time I'd ever heard the phrase "Funeral Pyre" and it created so much in my mind...

Beautiful song, i don't even care what it's about even though it's obviously about pagan things lol, it's actually my favourite female-vocals song ever ^_^ (except maybe strawberry gashes by jack off jill, even though i'm NOT an emo before you even think that)

On the surface, it's a song about Beltaine, the Pagan feast of summer, when the sun god, who died as a gift to the land at Samhain, or Halloween, returns to the fullness of his power, becoming again the lover of the goddess. Deeper than that though, it is a song of mourning for a deposed god, made a demon by the Christians. Thus the line "It has been two thousand years: The earth is soaked with blood and tears" It calls for a return of the exiled Pagan god, and a return to the ways of the Earth, warning us that if we do not start taking care of Her, we will destroy Her.
