Daddy Lyrics

My bones are tired, Daddy
I don't get enough sleep
I don't eat as good as I should, Daddy
What's that say about me?
Sometimes I sleep past noon, Daddy
Drink lots of black coffee and I smoke like a chimney,
Yes, I left the refrigerator door half open, Daddy
What's that say about me?
Sometimes I want to rip out your throat, Daddy
For all those things you said that were mean,
Gonna make you just as vunerable as I was, Daddy
What's that say about me?
Sometimes I want to bash in your teeth, Daddy
Gonna use your tongue as a stamp
Gonna rip your heart out the way you did mine, Daddy
Go ahead and psycho-analyse that
'Cause I'm your creation, I'm your love Daddy
Grew up to be and do all those sick things you said I'd do
Well last night I saw you sneak out your window
With your white hood, Daddy
What's that say about you?
I'm sloppy, what's that say about you?
I'm messy, what's that say about you?
My bones are tired, Daddy.

Does this mean she was abused?? Her bones are tired??

yeah, it's not about her daddy, it's about one of her friend's daddy. She went to sleep over at one of her friends house and his/her dad turned off the tv because there were black people on it.

This song was written about a friend. She had been at a friends house when she was younger and they were flipping through t.v stations. The station landed on a show that she liked - The Jeffersons - and she told her friend she wanted to watch that. The friends dad came in, took the friend away and when they came back, he/she was crying, turned off the t.v and when Jewel asked him/her what was wrong, their responce was "I'm not allowwed to watch black people on television. She wrote this song about that experience.

Actually, this song wasn't written about herself. It was written for the father of one of her childhood friends. She herself wasn't abused... (I read this at a fan-site, it's probably true because she was quoted saying this... of course, I just might be wrong...) I think "my bones are tired" is that she feels old and like she's been through a lot.
The meaning of this song is pretty clear like what nietzsche said.

her dad left her and her mom when she was little, and she wrote this song as sort of a f* you song

i really don't think this was about jewel's dad... cause i read "chasing down the dawn" and i vaguely remember her not not liking her dad (double negatives=positive). she wasn't pissed at her dad... she lived w/ him for awhile i think.. i agree w/ no angel about the friends dad thing... it makes more sense. but the lyrics to this song are really powerful... and cutting. i can't describe it... but she really is a good writer.
