Fallen Horses Lyrics
A long summers day,
Stetching out the cold
Searching for the answers,
And some say I'm not alone
Could you tell me
Where I might find
Fallen horses?
Their spirits they fly .
Blinded by the whiteness,
Staring at the sun,
I'm wishing that I had wings
So that I could become one.
Would you help me
If I wanted to die?
I could ride off
With horses tonight.
(Chorus)
Tell me why!
Why oh why?
I said why.
Why oh why?
Now that I've arrived here ,
I know I'm not alone.
All my friends among me
Tell me welcome home.
But could you tell me
Where I might find
The one I'm looking for?
'Cause her wings have arrived.
Chorus
Stetching out the cold
Searching for the answers,
And some say I'm not alone
Could you tell me
Where I might find
Fallen horses?
Their spirits they fly .
Staring at the sun,
I'm wishing that I had wings
So that I could become one.
Would you help me
If I wanted to die?
I could ride off
With horses tonight.
Tell me why!
Why oh why?
I said why.
Why oh why?
I know I'm not alone.
Tell me welcome home.
But could you tell me
Where I might find
The one I'm looking for?
'Cause her wings have arrived.

One of the more gorgeous songs I've ever heard of. This album, and this song specifically went under the MTV radar under-detected and underappreciated. This song has got to deal with death, the unknown, the fear and longing for it, the sense of being at piece with it in a weird and incomprehendable way. When I hear this song I picture a unicorn and a sunset. Somehow a person of the equivalent-of dreaming of death and a better place. To truly liberate oneself from being stuck to this earth.
@bluergriff - Maybe she didn't get into the same place?

This song is beautiful. I agree, it's hard to imagine how it can be so under-appreciated. I don't know anyone my age who listens to this band, I've been listening to this CD ever since I was little. I just see it in a different perspective now, because I can understand what the lyrics mean.
Death and how hard it can be to have a loved one die.
wow...this is gorgeous. i dont see why this is so underappreciated.
Mmm. Love it. To me, it sounds like someone wondering what death is like, and asking a fallen comrade of some kind what to expect.
Yeah this song is definitely a gem from astro lounge that most people bypass. I'd say it might even be best on the album.
When I was little I thought it was about a guy who was like having a life crisis or something and went off (I got a lot of outdoorsy/time passing imagery in the beginning, I imagined him hiking out alone, the sun and temperatures/colors) to discover himself and his purpose in life, and then he missed his friends and family so he came home, having realized that they were his purpose in life. Now, I'm thinking the horses/wings/spirits stuff is about death. He's in mourning because all the people close to him seem to be dying or drifting away and he feels alone because of this, and he wants to be with them (dead), but he eventually accepts that the one who died (some lady he loved?) has passed on and is an angel, ala a spirit who'll watch over him to make him feel less alone? This is definitely the vaguest Smash Mouth song. I'm glad to see so many other people enjoy this. Very intense.
Personally I believe he is asking for death so that a friend of his may live, but that's just me.
It certainly sounds as if someone wanted to die, a mercy kill more accurately
Someone having lost a lot of his friends and a special woman. He's hoping he can die as well, becoming a fallen horse like them and meeting them again. The one thing that is puzzling to me is that in the end his friends are there when he arrived in heaven, but the woman he is looking for isn't there… what happened?
