My Valuable Hunting Knife Lyrics

I want to start a new life
With my valuable hunting knife
She will shine like a new girl
And I want to shout out our love to the world (Hit it!)
Everything I think about I think about
Everything I talk about I talk about
With you
But you don't know what I go through
You don't know

Days, they will turn into nights
But my valuable hunting knife
It will not rust through the tears
And it will not lose it's appeal over years, come on
Everything I think about I think about
Everything I talk about I talk about
With you
But you don't know what I go through
You don't know
I'll never know
I'll never know
And then I will run
And then I will
And then I will hide
And then I will
And then I will run
And then I will
And then I will hide
I'll never know
I'll never know

I think you're overanalysing. I think there are times in a person's life when they are just sick of everyone around them and just want to get away from it all by living in isolation and surviving with Mother Nature... and for such a person to get their proteins and iron, they are going to need to kill and eat wildlife... and thus they are going to depend on their trusty valuable hunting the knife entirely.

I forgot to mention that when I used the first verse of this song as part of my email signature file, my ex-flatmate totally freaked out and thought I was insane and likely to stab her in the middle of the night.

She has a lot of issues.

I think he's talking about the fact that an object doesn't suffer from the sadness that comes with being a human. It also doesn't have the ability to judge, (i.e. "But you don't know what I go through"). The knife will never be affected by feeling or emotion and won't be mentally battered by the passage of time, even if it obviously will physically ("It will not rust through the tears, And it will not lose its appeal over years").

Been listening to this song for the last couple of weeks... I played it to my friend today who pointed out that Sid Vicious, allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death with a hunting knife... if you listen to the lyrics it all makes sense. I think this song is about Sid.

Maybe this is me just being overanalytical and/or crazy, but I think "my valuable hunting knife" is a sex toy of some sort. Or some non-human thing that gives pleasure to whoever's point-of-view this is from. Between the lines "She will shine like a new girl" and "And it will not lose its appeal over years", It's one of the few things that makes sense off the top of my head.

I always thought it was a stalker/murder song. Using the knife literally or possibly metaphorically to cut away or kill the old life.

For me, this song makes me think of meeting someone new and being infatuated with them - like a shiny new toy (or in this case, a valuable hunting knife just purchased) - in this case the knife becomes the girl, and the girl is used as a metaphor for a knife. And it's about imagining a long lasting relationship with this person even though you just met them.

Of course, the knife is eventually going to cut you.

Or maybe it's a song about how knives are better than women. "They ARE better than women! You don;t know what I've been through!"

It's about falling in love with someone and the feeling that it will last forever. The knife is a metaphor for the girl.

I certainly hope that's not it. If it's a metaphor for a girl, it's a boring, banal song; the rest of the song instantly becomes familiar from any of another thousand random love songs. If it isn't a metaphor, it's awesome - going away with only a valued object to start a new life and relating to it like a person is a far more interesting song. This is a case where "reading into" a song makes it shallower, not deeper.
