A Salty Salute Lyrics

Disarm the settlers
The new drunk drivers
Have hoisted the flag
We are with you in your anger
Proud brothers
Do not fret
The bus will get you there yet
To carry us to the lake
The club is open
Yeah, The club is open
Hey, the club is open
A-come on, come on, the club is open
C'mon, c'mon, the club is open
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, the club is open...

The club is OPEN.

I thought it was "dis on the sexless" as well. I don't have the CD booklet with me but I think this song is dedicated to two bars/clubs that the band frequented.

This is essentially a drinking song and serves as the anthem for GBVs loyal, generally inebriated fans and a staple of their beer-soaked live shows.

Yup.

I met someone once who said he talked to Pollard about this one and Bob said it was about how he found out about a new hip bar in town that was playing the music he liked and had sort of a scene going on. Salty Salute was his 'call to arms' to get all his drinking friends to come join him at the new club - hence 'come on! come on! the club is open!' like he's trying to get them off their ass..

such a sweet story.

I totally agree with the idea that this track is a "call to arms" of sorts for Bob to get his friends out to the bar.

I think when he says "Proud brothers - Do not fret - The bus will get you there yet" he's telling his buddies (or "the new drunk drivers") to not worry about getting busted for drinking and driving, 'cause this spot is on the bus' route.

My Interpretation

Lyrics book says 'settlers.' Settlers is not the word in the song. It's either set list or sexless. I might be wrong about which word it is but it's definitely not settlers. Or if it is it's being pronounced REALLY strangely.

Bob is the king of pronouncing things REALLY strangely though, so it makes sense.

It's "settlers".

I've seen them more times than i remember. The word is "settlers", whether you think he's pronouncing it strangely or not.

This is the perfect late-at-night song to wail "THE CLUUUUUB IS OOOOOPEN" along to with pals.

Gee, I was convinced it was "Diss on the sexless". Listen for it.

I am almost 100% sure.

this song reminds me alot of the many classes i had to attend for my DWI (ie; mothers against drunk drivers), the name of the song is what really sticks out to me tho; a salty solute, because DWI's carry a strange sentiment to me as well as others, we call it the DUI CLUB lol dont join it, but this song just reminds me of all the people i saw and met at these many DWI meetings. i think someone in this band experienced a DWI much like how i experienced mine. just a thought.
