THis is one of my most favorite songs in the world and one of my favorite songs by everclear who are one of my favorite bands in the world.... I agree with john that it is about running away from life with some one you love because your life was not perfect and will never be perfect.
This song is about finding hope in the places you least expect it. It shows how location and money have no real bearing on happiness. Life always boils down to being happy; So find the person who loves you back and everything will fall into place. ;0)

this song is about turning your life around. 5 miles outside of vegas when we broke down, vegas is sin city and he's almost there and then he " broke down", realized that he didnt like where he was going and decided not to go and to never look back
The first part=an addict does not care for material things,, easy come easy go-just looking for the next thrill-headed to Vegas-left the car-never looked back still up to going to Vegas-still up to thrills-on a Greyhound bus-as an addict you feel like a loser, but in a "special club" of losers and generally, you deflect that feeling of being a loser onto others, so you dont have to deal w/ feeling like that loser- never let them break your heart, never let them break me--having to be honest-dealing w/ issues-addiction, abuse as a child-is like being broken- living in Phoenix, getting high for 7 months -time for selling acid-life getting smaller-sounds like things are starting to get out of control-and either their world is becoming isolated or they are making connections that there is something better than getting high having had a bad childhood, he never found peace in his heart, that is why is not easy to learn to smile-there are times you want to leave all responsibility behind-but there is "no perfect place" -problems will follow
this song is one of my favorite songs in the whole world ( and thats saying alot since i love sooo many songs ) this song can make me really happy or make me really depressed, but it just means alot 2 me b/c it gives me hope for the future
Well basically this song, to me, means that no matter what you are doing, no matter how bad it is... If you are happy, it doesn't matter... Cause some day you'll be able to run away with the ones you love... Nothing will ever be perfect, oh well that's life...
this song is one of few that make me cry,in a good way. the line "5 miles outside of vegas 5 years down the line,we got married in the desert in the sunshine"that part makes me happy,even though he and his wife broke up,i feel bad for him,but i just love that line
