A Quarter To Three Lyrics
It's one a.m you haven't called
it must be four wherever you are
And the photo booth strip,
and the letter you wrote
they feel like nothing I could hold
Nothing bad, nothing free
there's nothing left
for me to feel
It's like goin' to bed at a quarter to three
Finally tired, finally empty
Should I be up to play the game
back and forth get back at me
And my confidence fell and I feel so mad
tell me whose side are you on?
It's like goin' to pieces could fix everything
At this point I'm really me
it must be four wherever you are
And the photo booth strip,
and the letter you wrote
they feel like nothing I could hold
there's nothing left
for me to feel
Finally tired, finally empty
back and forth get back at me
And my confidence fell and I feel so mad
tell me whose side are you on?
At this point I'm really me

I love this song to death. It seems like the singer is just realising that she is so alone and unresponsive to everything around her, brought on by some sort of separation from someone she loves. She can't really see the point in anything anymore, and that her lowest points are the ones where she feels absolute.
I´m with you, spindle. This song is to be loved to death. I think it´s about the process of realysing you´re all by yourself when you thought you had someone to hold on to.
Carrie wrote this song (and many of the songs on The Hot Rock) about a girlfriend who broke up with her while she was on tour for Dig Me Out.
