Start Together Lyrics

If you want me it's changing
If you want everything's changing
If you want the sky would open up
If you want your eyes could open up

I'm a mess
I'm the worst
But the best
that you've heard

Come so far come close together
Don't tear apart what we worked for

Right or wrong
here we are
I wanna know
what you are

Baby don't you leave me baby don't you go
I'll head out the fences head out the door

I don't know
what you want
But I got
what you..

Baby don't you leave me baby don't you go I'll
roll with the punches roll out the door

the singer is frustrated with their lover because they're unsure about the relationship."if you want, your eyes could open up" this song seems almost like a threat or a wake up call, telling them what is going to happen if they go.. "i'll head out the fences, head out the door"

its a confusing but amazing song about a complex relationship

So intense, so beautiful. I consider it the perfect gateway to the darker sounds of The Hot Rock, and possibly their greatest album opener (along with "The Fox," and "Call The Doctor".... Hell, they're all great.)

Carrie Brownstein said in her book the title was initially a song note, that all three came in on the song at the same point, but they kept it.

I think this song is a "first try" at "Hey Darling" from their new album. In her book, Carrie said that they are constantly using new songs to refine and reflect on the older songs. She used different examples, but I think this one is pretty obvious, especially considering how they used this song in their 2015 tour for No Cities to Love.

The song is about the band staying together. "Come so far come close together/ Don't tear apart what we worked for." In Hey Darling, the meaning coalesces into, "I was meant to be/ Infinitely by your side/ Distractions always hit but/ We're good this time." It's easy to oversimplify this song, and calling it romantic isn't wrong. But it's a romantic song about the band and their friendships.
