Stay Where You Are Lyrics
stay where you are
i'm in the dark
stay where you are
i feel fine
you're my life
i'm alright)
stuffed in the corner "little girl lost"
it's me if you want but it's not what i want
i want to burn up the place
set it on fire
i claw and i scratch i beg and i scream
i just need you to save me this last time
i can't tell the truth i can't speak this way
you're in the dark
i'm right here
stay where you are
OK, this is how the song actually goes (I think?). If it's in parenthesis ( ) it's Carrie's part.
I can't find you Stay where you are I'm in the dark Stay where you are
I'm Alright... I feel fine... You're my life... I'm alright...
(She's dead if you want and that's me if you want stuffed in the corner, "little girl lost" and I claw and I scratch and I beg and I scream I just need you to save me one last time It's me if you want but its not what I want I wanna burn up the place Set it on fire And she's bad cause she wants to not be contained Can't tell the truth, can't speak this way)
You can't find me You're in the dark I'm right here Stay where you are
...
(She's dead if you want and it's me if you want stuffed in the corner, "little girl lost" I claw and I scratch and I beg and I scream And I just need you to save me one last time It's me if you want but it's not what I want I wanna burn up the place set it on fire And she's bad cause she wants to set things on fire I can't talk the truth I can't speak this way)
(It's where, its where where you are I'm where I'm where where you are)
...
(She's dead if you want and its me if you want stuffed in the corner, "little girl lost" Iclaw and I scratch and I beg and I scream I just need you to save me this time It's me if you want but its not what I want I wanna burn up the place Set it on fire And she's bad cause she wants to not be contained I can't tell the truth I won't speak your way)
These lyrics are all wrong.
love this song, its about a person not changing themselves, staying where they are
This song is an example of what Carrie describes in her book as the interplay between her and Corin's approaches to songwriting. Corin is direct, describing the seeking, the continuous reevaluation and redefinition, asking for a level of stability and telling Carrie “You're my life.”
Carrie breaks the narrative apart, explaining why she, in fact, can't stay still, in vague and descriptive language. “It's me if you want but it's not what I want.” It's a shared journey of unrest and rage, but Corin's request for stability anchors the song and transforms what would otherwise be a blind rush into destruction into a song about love not fully reciprocated.
