Call The Doctor Lyrics

they want to socialize you
they want to purify you
they want to dignify, analyze and terrify you

this is love and you can't make it
in a formula or shake me
i'm your monster i'm not like you
all your life is written for you

(look out they want what you know
steal a kid break a heart steal the show
peel back the skin see what's there
i'll never show you what's in here)

you're life is good for one thing
you're messing with what's sacred
they want to simplify your needs and likes
to sterilize you

this is love and you can't make it
in a formula or break me
i'm your monster i'm just like you
all my life is right before you

(don't need you to explain the pain
i can prove to you it's all fake
she's dead but she can stand she can walk
call the doctor miracle she can talk)

call the doctor
(you)
call the doctor
(are)
call the doctor
(not)
call the doctor
(me)

call the doctor
(YOU)
call the doctor
(ARE)
call the doctor
(NOT)
call the doctor
(ME)

this is love and you can't break it
in a formula or make me
i'm no monster i'm just like you
all my life is right before me

(this is not really me at all
stunt girl daring twirls watch me fall
carbon copy same body different hearts
can't tell anymore the real parts)

i think it's not just about not conforming.. it's about not conforming to gerneral expectations in love and conventional realationships.. in other words, it's about how you're treated when you're gay. "this is love and you can't make it in a formula" also lines like "your life is good for one thing/you're messing with what's sacred" sounds like it is about how women are told all they're good for is marriage and making homes and how gay marriage messes with the "sacred" aspects of marriage

Great song! I can appreciate the theme of them not conforming to societal standards. Also, there's the importance of looking inwards to discover one's self rather than allowing outside circumstances to mold you into some kind of artificial entity.

it makes me FEEL so much. and i could listen to it forever.

defintly about breaking out of the frame, and not conforming.

yep, I agree with StephNJ. Carrie Brownstein has such a powerful voice.

oops.. wtf, Corin Tucker** haha, my mistake.

Carrie does too tho... (it's her that screams "YOU ARE NOT ME" behind the title phrase)

It could also talk about what society expects people with disabilities when they fall in love and they're not their own guardians. People like this have guardians who say they can't see their boyfriends/girlfriends because they think they're too immature to handle things like sex. When there are staffs around, people like this can't get into sex mode because they think being naked is inappropriate and that no one wants to see nudity. This is not true. The lovers might want to see each other naked, and the staffs want to call the doctor because they think that the lovers are sickos.

My Interpretation

I know it is not the ultimate meaning of it but I think there are slight Doctor Who references in it.
