Angels or Devils Lyrics
This is the last time
That I'm ever gonna come here tonight
This is the last time I will fall
Into a place that fails us all inside
I can see the pain in you
I can see the love in you
But fighting all the demons will take time
It will take time
The angels, they burn inside for us
Are we ever
Are we ever gonna learn to fly?
The devils, they burn inside of us
Are we ever gonna come back down?
Come around
I'm always gonna worry about
The things that could make us cold
This is the last time
That I'm ever gonna give in tonight
Are there angels or devils crawling here?
I just want to know what blurs and what is clear to see
Still I can see the pain in you
And I can see the love in you
And fighting all the demons will take time
It will take time
The angels, they burn inside for us
Are we ever
Are we ever gonna learn to fly?
The devils, they burn inside of us
And are we ever gonna come back down?
Come around
I'm always gonna worry about
The things that could break us
If I were to give in, give it up
And then take a breath, make it deep
'Cause it might be the last one you get
Be the last one that could make us cruel
That they could make us cruel
I'm always gonna worry about
The things that could make us cold
That I'm ever gonna come here tonight
This is the last time I will fall
Into a place that fails us all inside
I can see the love in you
But fighting all the demons will take time
It will take time
Are we ever
Are we ever gonna learn to fly?
The devils, they burn inside of us
Are we ever gonna come back down?
Come around
I'm always gonna worry about
The things that could make us cold
That I'm ever gonna give in tonight
Are there angels or devils crawling here?
I just want to know what blurs and what is clear to see
And I can see the love in you
And fighting all the demons will take time
It will take time
Are we ever
Are we ever gonna learn to fly?
The devils, they burn inside of us
And are we ever gonna come back down?
Come around
I'm always gonna worry about
The things that could break us
And then take a breath, make it deep
'Cause it might be the last one you get
Be the last one that could make us cruel
That they could make us cruel
The things that could make us cold

I love this song and usually don't try to interpret it, just listen and enjoy. But looking at the lyrics I'd have to agree with most of you. I envision the crossroads of a relationship that is ending...perhaps she cheated on him and he is having trouble balancing his feelings of anger yet love and hasn't decided which is the best response.
I have to disagree that this is a break-up and/or relationship song. I belive that this is more of dealing with the evils with life. "this is the last time that I'm ever gonna come here tonight this is the last time - I will fall into a place that fails us all - inside". This part here is not so much for going to your girlfriends or boyfriends place after a break up. The author of this song uses the words "all" and "inside". How could going to your ex's house fail us all inside?
i have to agree with Pobo's opinion. this song deals with the battle between the good and evil within us.
I Think Pobo's Point of view is correct, I always think that's the meaning of it everytime I hear this son... Really awsome!
Although I have listened to, sang, and played this song too many times for my own good, I actually never really paid attention to the meaning. I think the the relationship idea has more evidence from the song. You can really imagine the scene of the near break-up. However I rather believe the life-in-general idea because it seems to me that the writer had more on his mind than just a relationship. Who knows, maybe it started out being about a break up but JR generalized it some so that the listeners could have their own interpretation.
Undoubtedly, a great song in too many ways.
I would have to agree with Pobo. This is my favorite Dishwalla song ever and I've listened to it/sung it like a billion times (slight exaggeration), and I am pretty confident to say that it's about how we all struggle with sin. When he says "This is last time that I'm ever gonna come here tonight/give in tonight" it's like he's trying to justify what he's about to do. I don't have any doubts as to this one......and I really can't see the whole argument of dating his girlfriend. That one doesn't even make sense to me. Maybe I'm just retarded, but I don't see it.
this song means, to me, "walking away" from our weaknesses. he says, "this is the last time that I'm ever gonna come here tonight this is the last time i will fall"
hes talking about fighting his demons; the things that are pulling him down.
anyways, its a pretty amazing song. my favorite dishwalla song by far.
Angels or devils is such a gorgeous song. I think everyone's interpretation is valid. Personally to me it is about "demons" in the sense that we all have things we need to fight, move past or conquer. They might be small or large but everyone's got them and it takes time and effort to try to take them down (but fighting all the demons will take time it will take time) but sometimes you fail and give in (that I'm ever gonna come here tonight this is the last time - I will fall) it's making a pact with yourself to try and overcome whatever it may be. " are we ever are we ever gonna learn to fly" to me means am I ever gonna get past this and be free. "I'm always gonna worry about the things that could make us cold" represents fearing the things that may make you stumble again and fall back to your old ways. My absolute favorite line though is towards the end, "take a breath - make it deep cause it might be the last one you get" I love it, everytime he says this part I take a deep breath with him, I can't help it, cause one of these days it will be your last... so true, brilliant song!
clearly about the fight of good and evil that we all have within us, to do the right or the wrong. when he says,
"this is the last time, that im ever gonna come here tonight"
he meant that hes going to be good, and hes not going to come into a debate about what to do anymore.
when he says,
" I can see the pain in you I can see the love in you But fighting all the demons will take time It will take time "
the rest goes in somewhat that order as well. its nice to think that its about a relationship, but its clearly not. "angels or devils" really gives it away. "good or evil". but i think the hardest part to try and understand is that last part.
If I were to give in, give it up And then take a breath, make it deep 'Cause it might be the last one you get Be the last one that could make us cold That they could make us cold
this, he means if he ever gives in to the evil, he'll just give it up, take a deep breath and rethink about it. because those acts may be our very last that can make us, "cold" - heartless, evil.
took me a while to understand it in this manner but i feel like it fits with the song more
I think this is a post break-up song.It refers a boy that still fightin his demons since he broke-up with his girlfriend.
