The Best Was Yet To Come Lyrics
Just a small town girl in the city lights
The best was yet to come
Then lonely days turned to endless nights
The best was yet to come
How were you to know
That you would be the lucky one
Ain't it funny how time flies
When the best is yet to come
You can cry yourself to sleep at night
You can't change the things you've done
You had it there then it slipped away
Yeah you left the song unsung
Even through your tears
I never saw you come undone
What's so good about goodbye
When the best was yet to come
I find myself thinkin' about yesterday
When you were and livin' in a dream
In the moment that it takes
You find you made your first mistake
Like the setting sun...
You turn around it's gone
Just a small town girl who had it made
Or so the story goes
She had it there then it slipped
Oh - how was she to know
Even through her tears
I never saw her come undone
Ain't it funny how time flies
When the best is yet to come
What's so good about goodbye
When the best was yet to come
The best was yet to come
Then lonely days turned to endless nights
The best was yet to come
That you would be the lucky one
Ain't it funny how time flies
When the best is yet to come
You can't change the things you've done
You had it there then it slipped away
Yeah you left the song unsung
I never saw you come undone
What's so good about goodbye
When the best was yet to come
When you were and livin' in a dream
In the moment that it takes
You find you made your first mistake
Like the setting sun...
You turn around it's gone
Or so the story goes
She had it there then it slipped
Oh - how was she to know
I never saw her come undone
Ain't it funny how time flies
When the best is yet to come
What's so good about goodbye
When the best was yet to come

its about a girl that wants to forget but doesnt know how to reform her life in my opinion. n wheres the comments!! u crazy ppl xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This song has haunted me for years. For me, it has always been about a young girl's suicide.
I was looking at a web site for Jim Vallance, who played electric piano for Bryan Adams. Jim mentioned that the song was inspired by the story of Dorothy Stratton, the Playmate that was murdered in 1980 by her former husband, Paul Snider.
Now we know!
Thank you, jbreland!!!!! That honestly has haunted me for years, but I'd decided that I was the only person who knew the song, or even cared. Now I know!
I only listened to it (the first time) b/c I saw that it was about Dorothy Stratten but then I actually started to really like the song.
Here's the article by Jim Vallance's article:
