She's So High Lyrics

She's blood, flesh and bone
No tucks or silicone
She's touch, smell, sight, taste, and sound
But somehow I can't believe that anything should happen
I know where I belong and nothing's gonna happen, yeah

'Cause she's so high
High above me, she's so lovely
She's so high
Like Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, or Aphrodite
Da-da-da-da
She's so high
High above me
She’s so beautiful
What could a guy like me ever really offer?
She's perfect as she can be, why should I even bother? Ah-ha

'Cause she's so high
High above me, she's so lovely
She's so high
Like Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, or Aphrodite
Da-da-da-da
She's so high
High above me

She comes to speak to me
I freeze immediately
'Cause what she says sounds so unreal
'Cause somehow I can't believe that anything should happen
I know where I belong and nothing's gonna happen
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

'Cause she's so high
High above me, she's so lovely
She's so high
Like Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, or Aphrodite
Oh yeah, yeah
She's so high
High above me

I prefer to think of this song as the guy isn't really in a different economic class as this girl, but rather he's putting her on a pedastal. He likes her, so everything she has/does is the best.

And then suddenly at the end of the song it turns out that she does like him, and he can't believe it because he always had always thought that she was too good for him.

I'm probably wrong, but sometimes I like to use my own meanings, rather than the actual meaning of the song =)

I believe you're right on. =D

That seems to be so true

I definitely agree with this. You don't have to be in a different class as someone else to think someone is too good for you. I think he's just admired her to the point where she's become this ethereal being. I feel like this song captures that moment when, regardless of how confident in yourself you are, you find out the person you're interested in likes you back and you go, "Me? Really? Why me?" It's that feeling of ecstasy and nervousness mixed together. It's the beginning of a relationship, and you're wondering how you became so lucky.

I don't think the guy in the song is necessarily of a lower economic background, though it is possible. I think it's more of a social barrier. He likes this girl, but they come from different social groups. However, she's the real thing. She's one of those people who seems to have it all (First class and fancy free, She's high society, She's got the best of everything). He thinks she's perfect, too perfect for him, and thus he's placed her on this pedestol, comparing her to great women and a goddess. However, in reality, she isn't as "high above" him as he thinks she is. She does call to speak to him, and says something that seems urealistic to him. I think this song illustrates what's going on in his head right after she calls. He's in disbelief that his perfect girl has called him up to talk to him. The song gives a feeling such euphoria, that when he says nothing is going to happen, you know he's lying to himself. He just can't believe he's got the girl.

My Interpretation

I didnt read this until after I posted mine, but that is right on. She seems to have all the best stuff. High fashion and everything. I know I'm lying to myself about that fact that she is too good for me. I mean I can say that but believing it is another story.

I heard this song in the film "She's Out of My League" at a preview tonight.

It fits perfectly. The movie and this song is about a geeky guy with low self-esteem that finds himself the object of affection of a total babe.

I love the video. She's some sort of super hero.

@vulnavia no the song is actually about how she is addicted to meth.

The singer, who I could imagine as myself in younger oddball form, is crushing on this woman and blown away by (his perception of) her physical attractiveness and social clout. He obviously feels like he's out of grounds to even be near her, putting her on a pedestal as a goddess or uniquely legendary figure.

In the final verse, he's taken aback as she approaches him, a situation he totally overlooked; we're left observing him drifting into denial about the situation.

The optimistic read is that like Wheatus's "Teenage Dirtbag," the guy finds unexpectedly requited interest such that there's a possibility of a growing relationship with the woman.
