Black Sheep Lyrics

In love with the maiden, The flower of winter
Lowbrow children, in grove of the inland
How many times heart´s gone thru the grinder
wherever you look there´s a painful reminder

Singing a love song, words of a stranger
The howling miller, never to face her

Temple of the evil, Temple of the weak
no one knows how bad he feels
Late-night innuendo, tempetation of the key
"Live with the Blacksheep, live with me"

Insanity, blessing for those born to hate you
Burned by the embers of love, it is so cruel
Howling the night, for sun of the midnight
Serving the people, condemned you in the eternal night

of the lost song, words of the stranger
The howling miller, never to face her

chorus

Very awesome song. About a person who doesn't fit in and feels people hate and condemn him and had his heart broken a lot and no one knows how bad it makes him feel. The general message is that he's asking someone to be like him, to not fit in and stuff.

The lyrics of this song are somewhat cryptic and open to interpretation, but it seems to be about the pain and confusion of love and desire. The singer is in love with a woman who is described as the "flower of winter," which could suggest that she is cold and distant. The singer has been hurt many times in the past and is haunted by painful memories. He sings about the "howling miller," who may represent his own pain and suffering.

The singer also mentions a "Temple of the evil, Temple of the weak," which could refer to a place of temptation or corruption. He sings about the loneliness and desperation of those who are condemned to live in darkness and despair. The line "live with the Black Sheep, live with me" may be an invitation to join the singer in his misery and isolation.

Overall, the song seems to be exploring the darker side of love and desire, and the pain and suffering that can come with them. The lyrics use vivid imagery and poetic language to create a sense of unease and melancholy.

i dunno what it means, but the Black Sheep is in general a metaphor for an outcast, one who dosen't fit in, a black sheep among white sheep. it's used in the bible alot. the quotationed part looks like it could even be a biblical quote, maybe not, tho

I think it's about being a black sheep, not fitting in and embracing it, asking another to join. Which would explain the "live with the blacksheep, live with me".

Best guess!

I agree that it's about not fitting in. Also perhaps the point of view of the person ('How many times heart's gone thru the grinder, wherever you look there's a painful reminder').

I agree on the 'not fitting in'....But what the hell does Tony sing on the For the Sake of Revenge version? All I can make out of the first stanza is : "...We're not from England (inland?)/ We (hunt?) the summertime/We come from Finland..."

Actually he plays a little, he says: "We're not Iron Maiden and we're not from England, we are Sonata and we come from Finland!". I think they play like this in every show, now.

I noticed that too, infact this was the reason I looked up the lyrics for the song in the first place. Probably just a crowd jeer.

Nevertheless, an amazing song.

Flameenix: I found an old interview on an NW site that mentioned it. It's "We're not Iron Maiden/ And we're not from England/ We are the Sonata/ And we come from Finland..."
