Snail Shell Lyrics

Sir hand
or is it ma'am
I fell out of my right place again
and you
considered me
and now i'm where a snail has to be
I want to thank you for putting me back in my snail shell
I want to thank you for putting me back in my snail shell
Was it something you would do for anybody?
Was it what you'd only do for me?
I need to know because you see
I want to thank you for putting me back in my snail shell
Friend
look what you gave
and how can you ever be repaid?
How may I give you a hand
from the position at your feet where I stand?
So let me thank you for putting me back in my snail shell
Snail shell
Thank you
Snail shell
Thank you
Ah
Ah
Ah
Was it something you would do for anybody?
Was it what you'd only do for me?
Or was it something where you acted when you saw the need
and knew that there would be a way the act could be repiad
And so it may, but for today
I want to thank you for putting me back in my snail shell

I think this song is about when a person that may be snobby tells you she is better then and tries to put you in your place, which is a lower social standard then herself.

This is a very literal song. It's about a little snail who fell out of its shell, but was rescued by a human who helped the little guy back into his shell. The snail is thankful to have been rescued and wonders why the person helped it and if it can repay the person.

There are also cute references to the fact that the snail is baffled by its rescuer: "sir hand or is it ma'am?" - the snail can't tell the gender of its rescuer, it can really only make out the hand; "How may I give you a hand from the position at your feet where I stand" - the snail is tiny and can barely come up to its rescuers feet but is still grateful.

I like this song because it can be taken litterally, thats certianly not the only way to see it tho.

snail shell is usually a reference to being shy. It seems to me to be someone shy getting shutdown some how, maybe turned down for a date or just cutoff in a conversation.

I know this is going to sound lewd and/or trite, but I think the song is clearly about masturbation, and the closed life that the singer has withdrawn himself to while doing it. "Sir hand, or is it ma'am?": He's not sure whether his hand is male (since it's his hand and he's male) or female (since he was just "intimate" with it). Using his hand for his "companionship" has allowed him to withdraw himself into his "snail shell" without having to interact with the outside world. He even wants to give his own hand "a hand" in return for the pleasure it has given him, but doesn't know how to do it. Every line seems consistent with my interpretation to me.
