Stunt Show Lyrics
You hold me in mid air
And you keep me
A measure from impact
You stop and ask me
If the ringing in your ears might be the sound of thought
You're like a long slow accident
Time stood still while motion emptied you out
And I watched you like a slide show
1, 2, 3, 4
And there you go
We all stop and stare
From start to finish
Yeah we're measuring again
You keep trying to show us
How you can carry fifty times your own weight
You've got a whole new story
But your bound to your invention like a ball and chain
And I watched you
Like a stunt show
Hold my breath
And here we go
How will you get yourself out of this one
You stand by watching
And this is how your life is turning out
How will you get yourself out of this one
Yeah you stand by watching
And this is how your life is turning out
ooh...
How will you get yourself out of this one
Yeah you stand by watching
And this is how your life is turning out
How will you get yourself out of this one
Yeah you stand by watching
And this is how your life is turning out
And you keep me
A measure from impact
You stop and ask me
If the ringing in your ears might be the sound of thought
You're like a long slow accident
Time stood still while motion emptied you out
And I watched you like a slide show
1, 2, 3, 4
And there you go
From start to finish
Yeah we're measuring again
You keep trying to show us
How you can carry fifty times your own weight
But your bound to your invention like a ball and chain
And I watched you
Like a stunt show
Hold my breath
And here we go
You stand by watching
And this is how your life is turning out
How will you get yourself out of this one
Yeah you stand by watching
And this is how your life is turning out
How will you get yourself out of this one
Yeah you stand by watching
And this is how your life is turning out
How will you get yourself out of this one
Yeah you stand by watching
And this is how your life is turning out

Hmm...I'm just reading this and I can't help but think of Tai-Chi. LOL. Love this song though; I suggest you people to go out on a ferry cruise or something, stand outside on the rail facing the water and listen to this song from your discman. It is the ultimate best feeling for reflection.

This song is truly beautiful...
To me, Paul is singing about a girl who is unstable, unsure. she doesn't quite know herself. she keeps trying to reivent herself, trying to prove herself to somebody, anybody. as unstable as she is, she is above him, and above others. people "stop and stare from start to finish". they watch her life, her 'stunt show'. she performs, she takes risks, she revinvents herself, she tries to prove herself- to anybody and everybody. he watches her (falling apart?) as if from afar, as if she were not quite real: as if she were a character on television.
"how will you get yourself out of this one?" i don't quite know what this line means. maybe the girl has gone too far, or realised what an act her life is/has become.
...i doubt that this is a very good interpretation, but that's the impression i got.
Hmmmm, a tough one. Perhaps:
It could be anyone; a friend, a lover, yourself most probably. Thinking too much about your own life. Remembering, watching, predicting and most probably feeling bad about it. Regrets. After a while you become too predictable to yourself and beat yourself up about it.
How will you get yourself out of this one? Move on; make something up; copy someone else.
